Title: '87 barn find Savage fires!
Post by madmikesmech on 07/05/19 at 15:09:28

A couple springs ago I acquired a couple of "not run in a long while" Savages. I believe an '86 & '87 anyhow one has 9600 miles, the other like 13,000, well I used the carb body from the '87 to build with a Lancer JetSet, and Allen head screw set. For my '99, which is my daily driver. Turned out very well.
Well last night I was bored, so I shot some gas into to the rubber boot of the intake of the '87, put the 12volt boost box to the battery terminals, cranked it over, and she fired! Nearly ran for a second or 2 on her own!!

But this is the only vid I was able to get! But it proves "there is fire in the hole"!!! A rat bike build?!

The only "available carb I have "loose" is the one that has that stripped STUCK air mix screw. I tried to drill it out, to no avail! There is very little brass left and I'm afraid if I drill any larger I will get into the threads in the carb body. I do have the one still on the '86, so I guess I can go thru that carb and clean it up, get it operative, then use it to get this bike to run, then I'd love to get one of those round slide Mikunis off Lancer!
