Title: fix it so it brakes, ryca
Post by Matchless G11 on 06/29/19 at 11:05:16

Does any one know the cross reference for the brake pads that ryca sells for it brake upgrade?
I would like to get some softer pads. The brake feels like to one that I had on my Guzzi 850t ,  just like a block of wood against the rotor.

find out the p/n for the caliper then find out what uses it.
I think the bikebandit site can do that.

I believe they are the same as the pads as 1980 Yamaha SR 500
Very available in several compounds for many suppliers
But double check that before you buy them

Just cut out all of the discovery and steps in between and get a BBK

The bike already has the bbk from the previous owner, I just don't know what pads go into it.

If it’s the same BBK I have, then the caliper is from a first generation Yamaha R1. Is this the BBK with the 320mm rotor?

The sad thing is most all the sr500 I seen have been café or bobered out (badly)  :(

We may be talking apples/oranges a bit here.

MatchlessG11 has the early 2 piece (inner/outer) brake.....and I believe that Gary_from_NJ may have that style as well.

Later kits used a 1 piece Rotor that Shawn had specially made and it is not from any bike....but it uses the same caliper as the earlier kits.

I have had good luck with the EBC organic brake bads on the 2 piece rotors, I have not yet found a pad that I like on the 1 piece rotors.  The EBC organics squeal at slow speeds on the 1 piece rotors and don't seem to brake as strongly.  If I apply the brakes and get the rotor warm the squeal goes away - but as soon as it cools the squeal comes back.

I just got a set of Galfer Semi Metallic (G1054) pads to try on the 1 piece rotor, and I will give you a report in the next couple weeks after I get some miles on them.

I do have the floating two piece (S40 inner / R1 outer). I looked at Matchless’ photo to be sure he has the same caliper that I do. His bracket and caliper do appear to be the same.
