Title: What has caused this brake res problem?
Post by eau de sauvage on 06/16/19 at 20:34:31

Just getting around to replacing the front brakes and fluid and I discovered this when I opened the brake reservoir and I am wondering what has happened here. The photo is overexposed otherwise it would not be possible to see the black seal.

It appears to be mashed in, and I don't see how this can occur. Or does this indicate that somehow the fluid has evaporated a bit and sucked down the diaphragm.

situation normal, as fluid is sucked down due to pad wear, the seal goes with it.
this prevents exposing the fluid to the air.
pull the seal out, replace fluid.

Ok thanks Verslagen1

I took the brake off to give it a clean, the cylinder came out a fair way as I pumped the brakes a bit before realising, but I was able to push it back in with no problems using a c clamp and old pad.

Everything is back together but I'm having a bit of a brake bleeding issue and I'm wondering if the piston coming out a bit has caused a problem.

I have a one way valve for bleeding however I don't appear to be able to get anything to pump through. Whether I used the valve or the open and shut method on the bleeder valve, I'm not able to get the fluid to begin pumping out of the master cylinder.

Is there some trick that I have missed here?

EDIT: solved. Not sure what happened but when I went back to it it started pumping through.

I not sure why, but the 1 way bleeder valves don't work with the savage.
Perhaps their spring pressure is higher than the master.

Anywho, if the master is drained completely, you'll have a hard time getting it started again... unless you go away, have a beer and let gravity do the work for you, which it will thank you very much.

The cream..er, air always rises to the top!

(Tapping the caliper and brake line sometimes help expedite that.)

Sitting here drinking a beer, reading this, and thinking "Now this is my kinda solution!"

Maybe the source of the last solution, sitting, beer in glass, bubbles rising... tapping.

unless you go away, have a beer and let gravity do the work for you, which it will thank you very much.

Gravity is able to bring other problems to a conclusion.
If the parachute doesn't open, just wait a while..
Problem solved.

ah ha, okie dokie that explains it then. When I came back and it worked I did use the one way valve, I couldn't believe how easy it was all he bubbles were gone almost instantly. I used this $5 one from feebay
