Evidently she can't make it on 174K a year, and generous health care & retirement benefits.

Best regards,

Yes, do you understand the time-value-money (TVM) - N, I, PV, PMT, FV?

Why does she need a cost of living adjustment after 6 months on the job?

Meanwhile, she pays all her staff a great wage - far better than many.

So, if she wants to vote in a COLA - so be it.

It's nothing.  It's fair.  And had it been promoted by a con, you'd be just fine with it.

I don't recall AOC taking a vow of poverty, do you?

Undeserving in your eyes maybe, but not in most others.  You know, like homeless Vets, homeless children, the disabled, the elderly, etc.

LOL

How about that?

Well thankfully, you're wrong.

But nice try.  Maybe if you read what AOC is all about, you'd know more about democratic socialism and you'd be able to comment with more knowledge.

Like I told pro golfer, if you don't like to pay taxes, then don't pay them.  I'm sure the IRS would understand....  :D

If you really want to know what Democratic Socialists are all about, go here and read:

http://www.dsausa.org/

Democratic socialists believe that both the economy and society should be run democratically—to meet public needs, not to make profits for a few. To achieve a more just society, many structures of our government and economy must be radically transformed through greater economic and social democracy so that ordinary Americans can participate in the many decisions that affect our lives.

Democracy and socialism go hand in hand. All over the world, wherever the idea of democracy has taken root, the vision of socialism has taken root as well—everywhere but in the United States. Because of this, many false ideas about socialism have developed in the US.

Democratic socialists do not want to create an all-powerful government bureaucracy. But we do not want big corporate bureaucracies to control our society either. Rather, we believe that social and economic decisions should be made by those whom they most affect.

Well mn, I'd like to see your proof that "regular" democrats don't support Justice Democrats.

I think perhaps you read that somewhere on some conservative site.

But I will tell you this - far too few "regular" democrats support Medicare for all, free community college tuition, a $15.00/hr minimum wage and getting money out of politics.

Those "regular" democrats are what I call establishment democrats and frankly, their time is over (just like the establishment repubs).

Clear?

Those 'regular' democrats as you call them are the ones who put Trump in office in 2016 and will put him in again by not voting if a traitorous socialist like Sanders somehow makes in on the ballot or a fraud like Warren. The time of regular Democrats is not quite over and the US will survive a little while longer until Leftist finish her off.

You're entitled to your opinion, but I think you're way off.  trump got elected because of Hillary and complacency (and let's not forget about that "horrible" electoral college)

But I love that your vitriol of Bernie now contains the word "traitorous".  Calling him that is the same as calling trump "honest" - LOL - but whatever makes you feel good I guess.

The problem with the establishment dems is that they try too hard to work with the repubs - with the repubs not budging.  Biden is a perfect example of that.  He prides himself in that.  I guess he didn't learn anything in the 8 years he was with Obama - remember all those times that the repubs worked with him?.... Yeah, me either, because that never happened.

The democratic socialists actually have a spine and stand up to the repubs.  Warren is slow and steady, but I still think Bernie is a safe bet.

I guess we'll see in the coming months.  It's gonna be fun, that's for sure!

"Her" agenda?  No pro golfer, it's the Democratic Socialists' agenda.  In case you haven't noticed, income disparity is at unheard of record levels in our country.  These roaring teens and twenties are much like those of the 20th Century.  Remember what happened then? (it starts with a d and rhymes with "oppression"...)

Middle class wages have been stagnant (at best) for the better part of 30 years.  How is that a good thing?  How is living in a near oligarchy a good thing?

I'm all for a level playing field.  Tax burden should be shared.  Those who can afford more, should pay more.

Seemed to work pretty good in the 50's, 60's and 70's.

no, they didn't. middle of the road democrats either voted for Clinton or stayed home, not FOR Trump, you probably actually had more Bernie supporters vote FOR Trump than Clinton supporters

Trump didn't win by getting MORE votes...  he won by suppressing democratic votes who had their middle of the road capitalistic candidate in Clinton.  Clinton excited no one to come out to vote for her. She wasn't POPULIST enough, her answer to "what are you going to do for us?" was "More of the same..."  Sanders would have and still can SMASH Trump in a general election.

Wall Street expects a Trump win in 2020, but a new poll points to a different outcome

"Biden, who plans to blast Trump in a speech Tuesday night as both politicians campaign in Iowa, held the largest lead, 53%-40%. He built it with decided advantages among women, independents, college-educated whites, nonwhites and young voters.

Yet self-described Democratic socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont recorded an edge almost as large. He led Trump by 51%-42%.

Here’s where the 2020 Democratic front-runners stand on the issues
Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts led Trump by 49% to 42%. Sen. Kamala Harris of California led the incumbent by 49%-41%."

https://www.cnbc.com/2019/06/11/wall-street-expects-a-trump-win-in-2020-but-a-new-poll-points-to-a-different-outcome.html

but you're on Wall Street's side so you won't believe it anyway, probably claim how wrong the polls were in 2016....  but they weren't...  the electoral college and all its flaws are what got Trump in, the polls were right nationally.

but  you don't actually believe in democracy so no wonder you don't understand democratic socialism

the, legal, CITIZENS of the United States.

so, you're admitting that no illegal citizens voted in bulk to affect the election of 2016 then... good.

(And again, just for the tt)

So, tt, you have now admitted AOC IS, a DSA.
(Well unless you back track, yet again)

So please explain how AOC, a, 'dedicated', DSA member/follower.
Can believe/promote the main platform planks of the DSA,
then at the same time,
ask for a raise of a Salary that is already HUGE,
for the amount of work that is done.

(Which is the original topic of this thread)

I never denied that mn.

In fact, I consider myself a democratic socialist as well.

I never walked it back in the first place.  You wish that I did, but it was your own misunderstanding.

Yep - AOC is a democratic Socialist.

In other news - rain is wet!  LOL

I'd rather not explain because it won't make a difference.

But suffice it to say, democratic socialists don't want to end capitalism.  We don't want to take away anything from anyone.  We want fair burden.  We want the top 1% to pay their fair share.  In fact, we want more money to go to the middle class in the form of earnings.

Like I said in a previous post - AOC (nor any democrat socialist) never took a vow of poverty.

Seriously, if you need any more of an explanation than that, you need to educate yourself in it.

However, I don't think you're at all sincere in wanting an explanation.  I think it's more of an attention craving than anything else.  I kind of feel sorry for you.

I see, so these quotes directly from the, Democratic socialist site, don't really mean anything ?

"...But we do not want big corporate bureaucracies to control our society either..."
"...Social ownership could take many forms, such as worker-owned cooperatives or publicly owned enterprises managed by workers and consumer representatives...."
"...many consumer-goods industries might be best run as cooperatives...."
"...Democratic socialists always opposed the ruling party-states of those societies, just as we oppose the ruling classes of capitalist societies..."
"...In the short term we can’t eliminate private corporations, but we can bring them under greater democratic control..."
"...Although a long-term goal of socialism is to eliminate all but the most enjoyable kinds of labor, we recognize that unappealing jobs will long remain. These tasks would be spread among as many people as possible rather than distributed on the basis of class, race, ethnicity, or gender, as they are under capitalism..."
"...For now, the burden should be placed on the employer to make work desirable by raising wages, offering benefits and improving the work environment..."
"...we must fight for a world order that is not controlled by bankers..."

(WHO then is to be in control of this new World Order ?)
"...For now, we will continue to support progressives who have a real chance at winning elections, which usually means left-wing Democrats...."
"...Although capitalism will be with us for a long time, reforms we win now—...—can bring us closer to socialism..."
"...What can young people do to move the US towards socialism?..."
"...we call ourselves socialists to remind everyone that we have a vision of a better world..."

Just a  tiny amount of, 'info', directly from the 'democratic socialists' site.

So, in a conclusion. their are Democrats, which can be classed as conservative or liberal, on different subjects.

Then their are, 'democratic socialists',
who are the 1 - 10%, to the far LEFT.

Like AOC who wants a pay raise, for a job that is already far to high for what is done in that job.
YET she, 'supposedly', believes in:
"...Democratic socialists believe that both the economy and society should be run democratically—to meet public needs, not to make profits for a few..."

So glad tt you, self identify, as a democratic socialist.
It helps to understand why you have such a deep TDS attitude.

No, we don't.  Do you?

"...Social ownership could take many forms, such as worker-owned cooperatives or publicly owned enterprises managed by workers and consumer representatives...."

I hate to break it to you mn, co-ops already exist.

Yeah, they might be... so?

So?...

"...In the short term we can’t eliminate private corporations, but we can bring them under greater democratic control..."

Yes, I think we should.  Maybe make some rules about offshoring... even up the tax structure.

Well, it won't be the bankers....

True.  What, should they support republicans????

"...Although capitalism will be with us for a long time, reforms we win now—raising the minimum wage, securing a national health plan, and demanding passage of right-to-strike legislation—can bring us closer to socialism..."

FIFY

"...What can young people do to move the US towards socialism?..."
"...we call ourselves socialists to remind everyone that we have a vision of a better world..."

I'm proud to be called a democratic socialist.  It's far better than being called a trump supporter!   ;D
