Title: Questions about tariffs.....
Post by raydawg on 06/06/19 at 12:07:50

With all the talk about Trump's tariffs hurting farmers, folks, consumers, etc......

Because the cost is just added and passed on, to the end consumer, person, etc....

That its a bad deal, hurts too many folks who can't afford it, etc.....

OK, without even going into the effects of say China enacting tariffs in retaliation, as working for them, against us.....

I would rather ask why aren't raising taxes and other municipal fees ( business licensing, permits, utility surcharges, use charges, etc)  seen as effecting and hurting the same folk, as its passed on at any chance businesses, etc, can garner to have others pay the bill...

Do you understand the question?

they are, but it feels a bit better if you are paying more to your own local community instead of the big bad federal government or some foreign company

Yes, tariffs cost us.
But, it's a battle.
Stopping runaway immigration is important.
Who is silly enough to not know what they are costing us?
How's that sanctuary city stuff working out?
You realize that when it starts costing more for a product that comes from China increases enough to make it profitable for a manufacturer in America to go into production, then Americans benefit. Nafta was self sacrifice, it was STUPIDITY on steroids and China has been benefiting from our economy suffering. Tariffs hurt, but, it's either a trade war, or it's worse. Nobody voluntarily steps away from a position of power, well, America did. Everyone who has a clue saw what was coming. But Trump is working to UNSCREW the American people. And rather than see, understand and appreciate, the uniparty wants him destroyed. Because if he wins, LOTS OF PEOPLE who have been screwing the American people will be found out. That's why republicans are against Trump, too. Everyone knows what a RINO is, but we need another word for the people who have no idea what is going on and who are determined to see Trump ruined.
AINO, American in name only.

GitchyaSummaThat,
Winning..

I  am pleased to inform you that The United States of America has reached a signed agreement with Mexico. The Tariffs scheduled to be implemented by the U.S. on Monday, against Mexico, are hereby indefinitely suspended. Mexico, in turn, has agreed to take strong measures to….stem the tide of Migration through Mexico, and to our Southern Border. This is being done to greatly reduce, or eliminate, Illegal Immigration coming from Mexico and into the United States. Details of the agreement will be released shortly by the State Department. Thank you!

Some of these "strong measures" like the new but not new Mexico National Guard are not what I would consider "strong" but it is better than nothing.

The problem with the jobs come to America if we make American importers pay more for items is that we would need to do that globally.  I don't think tariffs will bring many jobs to the US, there are too many variables.

I wonder if the unemployment rate would be a clue...

If we want to over simplify everything so we can say look we did some tariffs and now there's more jobs.  Tariffs means more jobs.

We all know its not that easy.  I've brought up hundreds of pages of BLS documents, trends, calculators and such here already.  Tariffs weren't even enacted when the job increases started.

 Correlation doesn't mean causation.
