Title: 96 Savage Carb Rebuild Parts
Post by Elmer on 05/09/19 at 21:53:46

Hey Guys/Girls,

96 Savage, 26k miles, verslagen plug fixed...

I am rebuilding the Carb on my 1996 Savage.  I bought it for about $300 in 2016, Road it hard (4k miles) till 2017 and it sat in my garage after I had a baby.

Anyways, now I am stuck with a few problems.  ( Yes i emptied the gas tank, no i didn't empty out the drain on the carb )  and so it sat.

Now I may need to replace a few internal parts but I don't have enough knowledge.  If it sat and it looks ok, is it?

Where would be the best place to get replacement screws? ( I had to mess up the top of the screws to get them out).

I have seen the guides and they make sense but all their Carbs look immaculate as they are rebuilding them.  I am not so confident that I'll get it right but im taking it one screw / Jet at a time

Lancer was selling screw kits for the carb that included everything for the carb in stainless allen screws.

The local Ace hardware store is a great place for us....they have the metric screws in stainless and allen heads!  If you have a well stocked hardware store like this - buy them there.

Most of the time the carb doesn't need replacement parts - just a good cleaning.  Being a 96 it would not surprise me that your TEV valve is stiff and in need of replacement.....maybe the rubber tip on the needle as well.  You can buy both of those items on eBay at a price much cheaper than the dealer.

These kits may be a better deal - but don't install the jets unless you know what they are.....not all kits include jets that are the "correct" size for proper jetting.
