Title: Mikuni Carb Differences 24c5 vs 24c4
Post by cuda_tim on 05/05/19 at 12:43:28

Hey, so I'm working on a 1999 Savage that was in storage for many years, and it appears that the system was never drained of fuel.

Hence, the float is stuck (among other problems) due to a green varnish stuck to everything.

So rather than try and rebuild the original 24c5 carb, I found a "slightly used rather clean" 24c4.

The only obvious difference (and there are probably many more internally) is a missing hose connection on the 24c4.

Since this is my first post, the next message includes a picture of both carbs, side-by-side (24c4 is on the left).

I have tried (not too hard) to locate where the hose connects to, somewhere down below the airbox.

But I figured I'd ask first, and also get a reading on how important the connection might be.

Also, if someone can direct me to a reference document on each carb, that might be nice to have.

Anybody?

Thanks!

The one on the right is a california model and the extra port connects to a carbon canister that sits below the swingarm.
