There are two specific issues regarding repeal, three if you want to hack apart what Trump says all day. The third affects nothing of value. 1. Pre-existing coverage has more protections under the ACA. To keep it simple "coverage" means treatment. So insurance companies may be required to provide "coverage" but there is no limit for cost. So if one has asthma the insurance must cover it, but they can charge 150,000 a year to do it. 2. Lifetime caps. Insurance in the individual payer networks had lifetime coverage caps. Some as low as 100,000. So once that cost was met you were on your own after that, and they could legally continue to bill you. 3. Bringing up nonsense President's say. "All Republicans support people with pre-existing conditions, and if they don't, they will after I speak to them" - Trump. We will hear about this for years if pre-existing coverage denial or outstanding cost increases happen, exactly like the Obama statement "You can keep your doctor" The only difference will be who is bringing it up. |
