Title: Anybody want to read this?
Post by raydawg on 04/23/19 at 07:19:28

“We but mirror the world. All the tendencies present in the outer world are to be found in the world of our body. If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him. This is the divine mystery supreme. A wonderful thing it is and the source of our happiness. We need not wait to see what others do.” – Mahatma Gandhi

It seems we have seen lots of energy directed at blaming others, lately, on this board.
We have seen calls to raise the bar.
We have seen replies of, "Not until others do it first"
Or, "Its not me, I am only pointing out their hypocrisy...."
And so on.....

Old Okie say'n.....You can catch more flys with honey, than you can with vinegar....

If we want a better time on this site, above you find the answer, to how.
Why, because.....

1. It stops us from judging others;
2. It replaces complaining about others with  reflection on self;
3. It stirs us into taking action within the only thing in the world over
which we have any control: ourselves.

Peace all.....make it a great day, you can you know  :)

"As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him."

This is my general philosophy.  When I stopped being a jerk I met fewer jerks in the world, when I stopped wanting someone else to change my environment my environment was better.

Indeed......
Now flip it 180 degrees.
Misery loves company.  :)

You tell a kid its not fair, they believe it, and give up.
Thinking you just helped the kid get over a rough spot, is wrong, thinking you were caring and empathetic .....

What you did in effect, was to deny them the belief that they can indeed overcome, by hard work, and keeping to it (whatever it may be).
You also now removed the opportunity for them to find their self worth, by succeeding......
We have seen this played out time and time again, in our political and social beliefs and promotions, resulting in failures, and dependencies, of those we thought we were helping.

Very true, generally.
However, regardless of those truths, there are people who are determined to keep it harsh.
I am one.
Because I will not agree with what I know is Bullshit.

"Because I will not agree with what I know is Bullshit. "

 Why would you?

Nobody is asking you to "agree".  Why would you even think that?

I for one am not even asking you to be civil.  How you speak to us is up to you, although there are some that would prefer adult conversation over name-calling.

Bottom line is if I don't act like a jerk all day I don't get treated like a jerk all day.  Nobody has to agree with anything I say for that to be true.

I'm pretty sure you have reported people have sent you nasty PMs without you doing anything crappy.

Not being a jerk helps, but it's not a shield from jerks.

"Not being a jerk helps, but it's not a shield from jerks."

I agree.  But I am treated like a jerk the more I act like one.

To clarify:  When I indicated "fewer" jerks I mean a reduction but not an entire elimination of jerk interaction.  I am specifically saying that when I act like a jerk people respond to me as if I am a jerk.

I will always run into jerks, but I will run into less if I am not being a jerk first.  This forum is an example, people claim they will be civil as long as someone else is civil first.

Yes, I agree, its like a magnet, our perception becomes our reality.
Instead of investigating our need to be jerk, because everyone else is a jerk, perhaps a fighting fire with fire mentality......I dunno.
However, all you end up with is scorched earth.

Yes, ultimatums rarely serve the hoped for purpose, but now we are swinging back around to control issues  ;D

One repair.....jump off the merry-go-round, save yourself......
You can't save others.
Its not harsh, its reality at its core, period.

BRING ON SUMMER  :)

Jog, you want to try and elaborate on this a wee bit?
Maybe give a example of what you mean......

I am thinking it might be better to turn the other cheek, with the hope of realization might settle upon the one who is being overtly aggressive, etc.

"Jog, you want to try and elaborate on this a wee bit?"

I think he is referring to the PM's I get calling me an @sshole because I don't ride all my Savages etc.

Some of these people I have never talked to, so I didn't do anything to them so to speak, they just are angry with me for my choices regarding what I do with my property.

Had nothing to do with how I acted towards them, thus completely avoiding jerks is not possible.

As a disclaimer I do not think someone expressing their opinion about my motorcycle purchases and uses makes them a jerk no matter what verbiage they use, but it may be what JoG is referring to as reference.

Correct, E, that's it.

I didn't understand you at first, but I was pretty quick to let go of my attitude and just go with
They Are his and whatever he's doing with and to them are his business. That you chose the Savage for your testing just gives everyone here a bit more information. For people to use the back door to give you grief bugged me more than for them to give you grief. That's wrong
And Chikkinshitt
