"If we had confidence after a thorough investigation of the facts that the President clearly did not commit obstruction of justice, we would so state"

As webby  points out you cannot charge a sitting president with a crime.
imo impeachment at this time would be fruitless

To be clear, you can charge a sitting President with crimes, you can't indict a sitting President with "crimes" related to his Constitutional duties.

I think it's commonly believed President Clinton could have been indicted since his crime of perjury was not related to his Constitutional dities.

A President (and I understand to a lessor degree the Vice President) enjoy limited immunity. A President could not rob a bank and claim immunity as that's not a Constitutional duty.

The question in Trump's case for example might be did he fire Comey to protect himself from being caught from colluding with the Russians to gain personal wealth. If Mueller's investigation had found Trump got real estate or construction rights that would gain him millions in exchange for a pledge to use his Presidential powers after the election to the benefit of Russia or an individual for that matter, then yes, an indictment could move forward. However. as Mueller said, nothing of the sort was found.

Most of the folks chattering around here is that Trump was in his right, to defend against the lies being perpetrated against him in the media, opposition party leaders, etc.....

Let say if this investigation was about another republican, not him, or even another democrat. That they were being investigated for something by a special prosecutor, and it became readily apparent to any honest observer the charges were not provable, Trump could by the power invested in the office, call a halt to it, on his own discretion.

That appears factual, and the recourse would be at the ballot box, if you had issues with his decision.

In a strange way its like the case/charge against CNN, and friends, being brought against them for KNOWN lies they pushed/used against Nick Sandmann.
They used their invested power as a media outlet, etc, as a tool, means, to get Trump the person, knowingly promoting their FALSE narrative as a means.

Does the constitution guarantee us the freedom to speak, regardless of what it is we say, WITHOUT consequences when that "freedom" causes others to be impacted negatively?

I too agree that impeachment will not work, its a bad idea, and I think cost the democrats big time in close elections.
Folks will pin them for wasting time and energy on it, instead of fixing immigration, infrastructure, etc.....
