Title: Tall in the Saddle
Post by Dave on 03/26/19 at 04:24:33

I am amazed by how tall racing motorcycles have become.  In the automobile racing world a low CG is best....it doesn't seem to work that way on racing motorcycles.  Perhaps the tall bikes give better cornering clearance, and the rider hanging off the bike negates the overly tall CG of the bike.

Still....having the rider perched high up on the motorcycle just looks wrong for going fast to this old guy! :-?

There are forces at work there that we don't understand, but they work.
I'd take that bike and install forward controls, a mustang seat and 14" apes - make it "handle"  8-)

Your right Dave , they look like horse race jockies  ,  instead of bike riders .

I'd take that bike and install forward controls, a mustang seat and 14" apes - make it "handle"

even better , use those two stupid looking bikes for trade-in on one nice looking Savage !   ;)       Maybe we wouldn't have to give too much boot , but even if we did , getting rid of ugly would be worth it  !

I guess if you own one of those bikes......you really need to be able to ride them in a manner that is worthy of all that technology.

Most of the HP and handling would be wasted on me!

I find little comfort in the "monkey on a coconut" or the cruiser "birthing" positions....
It seems motorcycle manufacturers have forgotten what chairs are... ;D

As I understand it a "chair" is a sidecar, but I'm frequently wrong.

Just watched Moto GP from Argentina. Huge diff in rider heights, race won by 5'5" Marquez, ( 7 World Championships) 2nd Rossi  5'11' (9 World Championships).
Yes, shorter guys on taller race bikes look better than the opposite. Doesn't seem to affect race results much.  Cheers! 8-)

ps: I think Marquez has been measured cornering at 32 degrees off the pavement. !!!!!

Marquez is legendary for his ability to stay on the bike and keep riding it even after it is practically on the ground.

TO not let it lowside out in such moments is amazing.
That recovery didn't end in a highside? Carrumba!!
