Title: Daytona Beach Bike Week Again
Post by Ed L. on 03/24/19 at 12:40:19

As a local I've learned that this event is great for the big twins, Harley's and customs. I've also started a new event thing, instead of riding (sitting in traffic) I work on my bike. This year it got a new battery, one of the Wallie World cheapo's that last about two years. Also found a loose wire under the tank and suddenly my neutral safety light on the dash works, go figure ;).
Anyways the reports for bike week have come out and the numbers are way down by almost 30% for hotel rooms which is the main indicator the event planners use.
Even though I didn't get out I noticed that it was quite all week even with the weather being good for riding. We took a hit last fall with Biketoberfest and with the light turnout this year I'm wondering if this is the beginning of a downhill slide for this event. Attendance has been slipping for years but not like this. Hope that those who did come had a good time. I had too much going on this year to even try to ride  :(

I wanted to go but had too many irons in the fire to make it happen !

Ed , we need a tour guide that lives there !    ::)

It's over a full week of things to do from bike shows beach side to the factory tents and races at the track. Main street is a blast and Cabbage Patch has expanded to the field across the street.
Destination Daytona has become a stop along with the bars along Route 1 and if you get bored there is always the beach.
I wouldn't even know where to start as a guide with all that there is to do.
It's a good time for all even though I didn't get out this year.
Haven't been able to ride for about eight months due to a pulled left shoulder. It's finally feeling better and I've got mobility back but am a little hesitant about getting back on the steel horse.

Ed,

I am a firm supporter of "riding gently" now -- I spent lots of years "riding hard" and now that age has come to see me I think that being able to ride at all is a very good thing.

Guess what, all of the group is going to come on over to our viewpoint soon enough --- no need to hurry them along any.

Your Bike Week zoo will die down more and more as more of us age out.

As host, you get to pretty much call the pace and the places we are headed to.   And if you park us selectively at a nearby campground or cabin place, then you know where we will be staying.

One good thing --- none of us drink and none of us speed in town (all are used to urban cops all over the place).

Ya , what OldFeller said *2 .    I never was much on alcohol ... maybe a cooler around the campfire reliving the days events ???

I'm not saying I don't enjoy a trip through the twisties once in a while !

But ya'll got them scenic ocean front rides in Florida .

The one time I went to bike week , I spent a day at that place where there was a Harley shop , some BIG After-Market Bike store , and a whole bunch of shops along a strip.   I read more helmet stickers than I thought ever existed in the whole world , and saw some really old bikes cleaned up and looking good .    The Day wasn't long enough !    The whole area was a Carnival like the Dragon on a summer weekend , but Bigger  !
Next time I want to see the Burning Bike thing at the end of the week .  :)
and ride around Florida more.

Well I'll look around for group camping. I know Cabbage Patch used to have tent sites across the street under trees which would fit the ticket. I"m pretty sure they still offer tent camping, primitive with no power but they are only three or four miles away from my house which would be sweet. I'll stop by and see what the deal is. Even have a tent or two if one is needed. There are a lot of RV sites around but don't think they will work for a group coming in. Don't think the wife would want any camping on the property which stinks and the local cops frown on it also. I've no problem with camping on my lot but the wife gets the final say on it and last time she said no, I'll work on her but no promises.  Anybody trailering into the event could park their rig at my place, got plenty of room. Gotta get the logistics figured out before planning the rides.
Maybe move this over to the 2019 Savage Events thread. This could even work for 2019 Biketoberfest if the cards fall right.

During Bike Week ,  the camping place of choice is the same one where the Burring Bike goes up the last day of Bike Week .

FASTLANE CAMPGROUND  :)

Its only $90.oo for the week per camp site too !  ;)

Just looked it up, it's out on 44 about 15 miles from my house. Didn't know that it existed, looks like fun. It's right next to the fair ground which has a big parts flea market going all week. Might be the better choice for camping, it's only about ten miles from Cabbage Patch.

So far I've got an ok from my better half fo trailer parking at my house. Could use my property as a staging area during the event. Got a shop so any repairs could be dealt with as needed. Going to put it on my calendar for Biketober Fest and Bike week. Yup it could work. :)
Could even shake the dust off my 21 foot Center Console and see Daytona from the ocean as a extra attraction.

Shoot us some dates for the fall Octoberfest and point us at the web pages so we can all go to drooling and calendar marking.

I'll scout out events and campgrounds but that Fastlane campground looks like the best so far. Been working on my boat, a 21 foot center console that's been sitting for about a year thanks to the bum shoulder. Hey she started up on the fourth try, gotta love those big two strokes.
