Title: The Electoral College
Post by WebsterMark on 03/20/19 at 05:04:36

It's hard to keep up on the Democrat's sore loser policy of changing the rules after losing and it would be hard to say which is the most ridiculous. Illegal immigrants voting, no ID, 16 year olds or abolishing the Electoral College?

As the saying goes; "If 5 lions and 4 zebras are voting on what's for lunch, you better hope you're a lion."

The Electoral College is an ingenious way highlighting the fact that we are the United STATES of America and by brilliantly giving over representation to small, rural states.

But I don't think the discussions really focus on that word, STATES. We are somewhat unique in that we are composed of 50 individual states and while there are federal laws that cover all 50 states equally, we still have a situation where individual states are dramatically different from one another.

I don't think this is something we can so easily throw away during a temper tantrum. I heard someone say once, and I love this image, 'the Electoral College gives the land a vote.' To me, that phrase means the sparsely populated states are just as valuable to the nation as New York, DC, Baltimore, Chicago, LA.  And much like living in Montana, Wyoming, North or South Dakota (or even traveling through their vast distances) requires a different mindset, so does our procedure for national elections. "The Land" deserves a vote and we entrust that vote to the people who live there.

The electoral college is a disaster for a democracy.

But seriously, keep the electoral college.

However, we need to end gerrymandering.

I live in an "all or nothing" state, so could you fix that too?

I support the Electoral college, for the most part, I understand not wanting the tyranny of the majority...   but I do propose a civics test for all candidates seeking any office in this nation.

"However, we need to end gerrymandering."

 I agree.

I also think the electoral college is a good idea as Presidential campaigns could literally ignore all but a few of the larger states.

but they currently ignore the larger states, Texas, solid red, no reason to go there, California, solid blue, no reason to go there, New York, solid blue no reason to go there, etc....

Only 2 States are doing the electoral college the way it should be.
Where each Fed district in the State,
has one vote, and the total population of the State,
has two votes.
In a ‘All for one’ State like Calf, the States entire population vote carries.
Even if it is just one vote over.
So it made, totally MUTE, the voices/votes, of the districts that voted the other way.

Example, MN has 8 districts, 5 (rural) voted for Trump
3, (urban), voted for HRC.

The 3, contain the, ‘Limousine Liberals’ in one of them,  another one contains MOST of the undocumented workers in the big plants. And the 3rd contains a vast amount of refuges, non citizens, and a generation +, which has lived their life in a system of sky-ways.
Because those three districts votes, contained more people (those 3 are very Urban) the State gave all 10 of it’s electoral college votes to HRC.

If Mn was like the other two States, it would have been 5/5

In Calf, the electoral college would have been 35 HRC, 20 Trump, Not 55 HRC.

That will never change in Calf, because of who makes the rules.
Also never in Minn, because of the Socialist, UL, money grabbing Gov.
