Maybe this would work.  I'm considering something like this for my RYCA CS-1

I havent seen one mounted yet.  I think most people choose to use a Suzuki doner because of the fat and high frame.  Most of the Honda tanks are a bear to mount, as in you have to cut out the inside and make a new one.

I used a GT380/550 tank on mine.  Not too much needed.  My brother used a GS450 for his.

I wonder if the tanks grow on trees in the US.
Here it's impossible to find used spare parts at reasonable prices for vintage motorcycles.
Unless you're the scrap yard's cousin.  :D

Most Honda tanks have a very narrow tunnel, and don't fit the Savage frame very well.  The same is true of most tanks that come from old dual sport (enduro) style bikes.

I have a really nice NOS GS450 tank if somebody wants to buy it.  I bought it to use as on a "standard" style Savage conversion - but it is just a little bit long to allow the use of a double seat like they used on the bikes in the 60's and 70's....it would work fine with a single seat.

It has a few small paint chips, no dents, no rust.
$150 plus shipping.

The more roundish Honda tank compared to the sharp cut looking Sportster tank was what I was going for. It its too hard to convert the Stock tank is fine.
Some of you all do such a great job modifying these bikes it makes one think that maybe I could do that as well.
When I remember how to post a pic off Photobucket again I will share what I have in mind. Brain damage I guess.

This was my first real  inspiration. The bike looks to me like it saying ride be. I believe the  relaxed look got me but that rear fender is what hooked me.
Throw on some flat track handlebars, front fender and different exhaust and I would be good.
But listening to all your mods especially to make it a better handler and Im getting more excited.   :)
Tracker/bobber lookin kind of a thing. This is what Ive pieced together on the computer

I use to own a Yamaha RD 350 and I had a great time riding and modifying it.The S40 is about the same weight but but not as prone to doing wheelstands which is good for me :).

I hope its not that expensive there. I found the pic on google images.I just love the feel of the bike. i think the rear fender is a fiberglass front fender possibly off a Harley.
