Title: Cam chain tensioner, still 15mm after 6k kms
Post by eau de sauvage on 01/25/19 at 16:36:32

I checked the CTT at 24k kms and it was out 15mm so I was about to install the new Versy CTT yesterday at 30k kms but I did not because it was still at 15mm, maybe it had moved 1/2mm but it's hard to tell.

Everything looked good doing a cursory inspection. Engine seems to be running quietly.

Is this normal for the CTT to lose a cm of travel over the initial milage, and then to settle down where it stops stretching for a while? Barring any sudden increase in noise from the cam chain, should I be good for another 6,000kms before checking again?

You should change it now and you won't have to worry. You could just use the first hole in the Versy, and be assured that even if it extends all the way before you check it again it won't fly apart and RUIN your motor.
logic is sometimes the best tool in the box.

Doh! I can't believe I didn't see that, for some reason, I just got it into my head that when the Versy goes on it has to be the second hole. I completely forgot that the pin works for the first hole too! How mad is that.

At least I checked how much oil comes out if it's not drained and on the side stand. Turns out to be not very much at all.
