Title: What's your New Years Resolution ?
Post by Ruttly on 12/29/18 at 07:51:14

So let's hear it ! Loose weight, Quit something , Do something come on be brave and document your resolution here. No judge & jury here , no one here to criticize you if you fail. Sharing your resolution may give others a positive idea to possibly better their New Year.

So let's hear it !

I'm torn.
I've resolved to Not HAVE a new years resolution.
And now I'm feeling all conflicted.

JOG , How dare you mock such a important topic ! It is clear you need help. Help that may not be available HERE !  ;D

I was doing just fine until I was asked about it. Yeah, NOW I need help. And I'm blaming you, so, I'll be needing your address. You can pay for the therapist.
Inner conflict like that should be resolved in no more than four or five sessions, so, you'll get out for around seven hundred dollars probably.
Well, that accusing me of mocking thing, that's hurtful, probably gonna need a couple of hours on that..

Hmmm, HF is 50 miles away and the morning temp in the low 20’s so no M/C riding.
New Year’s Eve and New Years Day are home time though.
Decisions.
What would I buy ?
I really want a Bond Arms 45/4-10 derringer and I almost have enough saved for one.

Well since I have already quit smoking , drinking , eating bad foods and lost 15 lbs this year , I'm gonna have to do something different for my resolution ! I'm thinking about the big push to finish , yes I said FINISH the tracker while I continue to ride it this spring/summer. Throw some more $$ at it for final tuning & gearing. Document the ton runs , I know it will pull the ton and then some. And having lost 15 lbs I'll be a tad quicker too , while keeping the bike at 315 lbs or a little less. I think this project has gone long enough ! I have 3 or 4 other bikes to build.

The Savage Resolution  ;D ;D ;D

I give away a 1-1 ratio of the meals I eat, I would like to double that.

I'd also like to get a modern money management program into local middle and high-schools.  One of the schools still balances paper checkbooks, which is ok for some sort of "80's Day" where kids are to style their hair and wear 80's clothing, play cassette tapes etc. to allow them to see how a portion of older methods work today, but in reality most kids will hardly ever see a paper bill from their own paycheck.

I'd like to develop a system that has them interact with credit, credit interest, loans, and paying those back over the course of a school year.

Eegore

I'm doing that very thing with my 22 year old son now .   Setting up debit card stuff , on-line banking , e-pay checks , etc .   He might have to see the old way before he can appreciate the "better" way but I hope not  :-? ?   We were in a city with Razor rentals available but I didn't have any way to pay for the rental set-up on my phone , it kind of served as a "wake-up" call for me.

I must need something from HF --- but can't remember what it is yet and its  still rainy too !  :P

So , for the new year :

I'm getting at least one of the "Big things checked off bucket list" checked off .    Don't know which one yet  ::) .

The list contains :
Bottom to Top on the Blue Ridge
Bear Tooth Pass and Yellow Stone / Black Hills Ridding
Go see Versey in his Natural Environment
Surgis SD.  in August .

Anybody else share any of these items ?

Title: Re: What's your New Years Resolution ?

My goal is a clean, tidy workshop where everything is in it's place...the floor is clean.......and there is only one project torn apart at any one time.  I want it to look like the photos of the shops where they work on Indy and Nascar racers.......they look like you could eat off the floor.

I have been working on that concept for the last few weeks and I built shelves, bought plastic storage containers and labels - and I have been sorting/packing/tossing stuff for a week.  It will probably take me another couple of weeks to get things organized.

MM:  I will do the Blue Ridge Parkway with you.....pick a week where it is sunny and there isn't any rain! 8-)

Title: Re: What's your New Years Resolution ?
Post by Panhead on 12/31/18 at 09:35:39

I sympathize with JOG.  I always have trouble making decisions and then the resolution idea gets brought up.  hmmm... I never get caught up on my projects because my Savage is too dang dependable.  As long as it keeps running I have trouble letting go of the handlebars long enough to accomplish anything else.  I think I just decided on a resolution:  "Keep On Smilin"".  Hey, wasn't that what Wet Willie suggested way back when?

The Blue Ridge Parkway from Cherokee to ......... what do you consider the end of it to be?

End of the BR Parkway proper, the end of the Virginia Skyline or Washington DC (the end of the stub road that comes after the Skyline) ???

MM, you could get some more participation out of our group by declaring it an Aged Rider Meander an older rider event that actually obeyed the speed limits (more or less).

But then you would have to invite the aged and infirm like Lancer and me to go riding with you if you did the Aged Rider Meander thing, along with all of the rest of them "might drop dead during the trip" sorta riders .......

There was a picture that ((Al from NH posted ) ?) of the Northern end over looking a really big Mountain , I think they were on Dual-Sport bikes.
It looked like it might have been the Northern End ?

That 30 mph speed limit through Va. should be the hardest part best I can figure.
Its kind of odd about the Savage --- I have to be going at least 45 or so to stay in 5th gear , but the 750 Guzzi will get down to 30 mph in 6th gear (slow but possible).   The Savage with 25 tooth pulley can get down to 30 mph in 3rd gear OK.

I went down the Natchez Trace (50mph Speed-limit) putt-putting along at 55 or so and met at least two rangers who seemed to not care.

So OldFeller , I like to ride enough that I  mostly   obey the speed-limit so I can keep my license .  ::)  We should probably have a RULE about the Dropping Dead Part .  ;D

Planning the  campgrounds is the hard part for me.

Dave , I'm guessing your thinking of the BMW for a ride like that ?
or
The Ninja has a big cruse range too ?  and Stew might want to take a ninja ride ?   Makes me think of keeping the GS500, its got a 4.5 gal. tank  :-/

Seems like the "official" length is 469 miles.
https://www.blueridgeparkway.org/parkway-map/

Not sure what bike I would bring at this point - depends a lot on what we determine as the best means of getting lodging.  If tent camping is the method we use - then the storage on the BMW is going to be needed.  If we decide to stay in hotels or cabins.....then the little Ninja is a possibility that would not be nearly as comfortable.

Getting to Cherokee and back is a 7 hour trip for me.....and the 469 mile Parkway is going to be a 1,000 mil trip by the time you ride up and back and make the little side trips to get fuel, get lunch, see the touristy stuff.  Depending on who ends up going and who you may have to ride back south with......I may ride west from the northern end to go back home and make the event into a large "loop".

And.....my goal it clean up my garage is moving forward.  I completed the shelves in the front part of the garage, and it is time to start getting stuff off the floor and onto the shelves.

The fans look to be located in a bit of an inconvenient spot.

Title: Re: What's your New Years Resolution ?
Post by Dave on 01/03/19 at 03:13:49

The ceiling fans were installed before I ever decided to build shelves - however they still are a couple of feet from the edge of the blades and aren't a problem as long as you don't have them running while you use the ladder to get things on/off the shelve.

The upper shelve is for things that are in storage and not used often.  Things like Camping gear, car ramps.....my unicycle! ;)

I like having ya'll over at my house , but I know its a long way for some of you fellers .
also
I've got a renter (young man) in the rock house now , so I'm not sure how accommodations would work out.   Four recliners in the living room and one spare bedroom  or  a tent w/cots on the carport/yard is how it looks now.

O-yea , the yearly pilgrimage to Stone-Hinge too.   That place makes me think of Old-Rider for some reason ?   :)
....................................................................

might not be far enough North for a stopping place , but it might be a nice meeting place ?   :-?

If it has flushing toilets there must be a charge even if its only a small one.  8-)
This one does have flushing toilets but that OK with me.   I think baby wipes for bath time is involved .
I'm Ok with cheep Motels as long as my bike is safe in the parking lot .    Sometimes parking in front of the office is a good thing to do.
I'm Ok with Dispersed Camping too , but I need to know weather or not to bring the hand shovel !  ;D

On the left is our friend from the Florida  pan-handle Old Rider also know as Back-yard-Bill .    Bill passed away a couple of years ago from a sudden illness.  His other bike was a 300 Ninja that was painted like a US Air-Force plane.   Well , he rode from Florida to the Dragon Friday , rode with us all day Saturday , then rode back to Florida Sunday .   One year he brought his wife to one of our rides (the same year I brought one of my nephews).    They were Friendly Folks !

Those other folks are :  MMRanch , SpringMan , Versey and  Art-Webb.

...................................................

this picture :  MMRanch , SpringMan ,YouzGuyz , Bill ,Versey , Art .  That would be a Six Pack of Savages in front of their handlers !

I do have friends that sometimes have  Pink and or blue hair .  :P
Most of my friends ride Harley's / Gold wings  / Sport Bikes , wear any thing from Overalls to dress pants , drive  all brands and kinds of vehicles from sport cars to tractors , have skin of any color available , some are Bi-lingual , and come in jobs from being the Law to Running from the Law !  ;D

I will admit to knowing what rules we were given by our creator and trying my best to live by them .   Also admit to not being politically or culturally correct at the expense of offending our maker.

Hey MM......You could go "darkside"!
(With all that black - the training wheels would likely just fade out of sight).

What a nice looking bike !
It just looks good sitting there and seems to have good parts.  I have not looked up the details yet but plan to do so.  And the price is very good, similar to the base models of Triumph.  So many motorcycle manufacturers out there making good bikes for good prices, virtually all in the 600-900cc range.
Except for the Suzuki Savage.

COME ON SUZUKI !
DO SOMETHING with the LS650 !

ray , you mean you have training wheels ?

Ain't that just the way of life....eh  :D

Born with diapers, crawl, walk, ride with trainers, two wheel.........
Back to four, cane, walker, diapers.

God sure knows how to humble us, yes  ;D

You know these things lean over like most sports-bikes ?   Its a long way before the foot pegs find the pavement !  :)

I might be a 125cc street bike instead of extra wheels kind of guy if I ever get to feeling my years ?  ;)

My long term ride into my 80's plan includes a basket case theft recovery Savage - but that is nearly 20 years into the future and I don't know if we will even be allowed to own an internal combustion engine in 2040 and beyond.  I plan on making it into a mid mount peg, bench seat copy of a 60's era British single with a place to mount soft luggage and a windshield for touring.  I can't think of a better 360 pound motorcycle to ride into my old age.

While I am still healthy and reasonably fit - I am OK with a heavier/faster and more comfortable range of motorcycle options....but that won't last forever.  I will keep my Savage Cafe' bike until I can't ride it anymore.....and I expect in the next 2-3 years there will be a more comfortable touring style Savage project bike in the garage.

The bike served more a purpose in my life than it did a "way of life" or hobby, like so many of you seem to enjoy.
I am putting that effort into my boats.
I loved the free feeling of riding my bike with no shield on a summer day, I almost felt I was flying over the pavement.....
I get that with boating too.....
And then putting in at my own spot, the solitude, the feeling of peace, the smell of water, then the crabs just put icing on the cake.

I just ordered a  "pot puller"
No, it ain't for making joints, its for pulling my crab pots with a motor, instead of by hand.
I will use it to shrimp too, as those pots are 300 to 600 feet deep, not a task for old muscles.
If you have never had FRESH shrimp, minutes from the water, then you are clueless to just how wonderful it taste/eats....
I mean golly, shrimp that you buy is good, heck yeah, this is just like eating virgin meat  :-/ :o

You guys do a PacNorWest shindig, we'll see if I can put you on some of my heaven  ;)

PS: I just get to choose who I double up with  ;D

Ray

Doubling up and eating Virgin meat shouldn't be used together  ?

But

I'm glad you enjoy doing all that stuff on a boat .  ::)

I've had a couple of fresh-water boats .   They were all under 50 Hp things.    Two of them were fishing boats and one was a small ski boat.   They're all FUN !  ;)

They red-line at 7K but have really good low end where you can use it !

Sorta like a Harley on a diet with both cylinders catching wind like the front one does ...  ;)
