Title: 360 View of Pikes Peak run.
Post by Dave on 12/04/18 at 10:11:26

This is a really cool video of a motorcycle run on Pikes Peak.  The camera is 360 degree - so you can use your mouse to change your view angle...use icon in the upper left side of the picture.
(Sorry Jog....this may not work on your kindle).

It played, but looked so weird I was getting queasy.

Ken dolls have limitations.

If you pull 'down' it makes it look like you're popping a wheelie whenever you want.  I was riding lots of wheelies and it was fun!  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

That's a good place to ride, highly recommended.

On an average sunny, touristy day......is the speed limit enforced aggressively on the road?

If you are on your motorcycle and start passing slow moving tourists - is there a good chance of a citation in your future?

I don't know how aggressively they enforce speed.  In CO helicopter speed surveying is legal and done regularly but typically on interstates and highways.

I would say the chance of citation is 50% just to be safe.

I agree , it should have never been paved ! But I still have to do it , won't be my first ticket , I ain't skeered !
Where is this road you speak of ? How long ? How high ?
I love fast fire roads on flat track tires.
How long is the longest straight and estimated speed on that straight ?
Where I grew up there was ridge up in the game refuge where it is illegal to ride. The best fire road hides up on the ridge , Pacific Ocean on one side and San Francisco Bay on the other and a smooth 100 mph fire road winds across the top of the ridge. Many a county sheriff tried to catch me in there but not one had bragging rights to claim such a feat ! Not one !

The engine in my '12 civic would have blown up at the 3 minute mark, 140hp and zero torque!!! haha!
My savage probably would have made it, but slower!
This is where you need to pay attention to rear wheel diameter if using a belt drive. Looks like this hill is made for the stock tire, 23.8" dia. Cheers!
ps: thanks, Dave!  8-)

I looked, and the speed limit is 25mph. :(

If I rode the hill I wouldn't want to try for a new track record - but I would hate to have to crawl up the hill at 25.....or forced to ride behind a lumbering SUV or RV.

Like the Tail of the Dragon, maybe there are times when the traffic is light and you could get a good ride going.  If you got out there early you might beat the tourists going up......and since it is dead end you aren't going to have traffic in front of you on the way down if you beat them to the top. (Unless they bail out on the way up and turn around to go back down).

Pikes Peak is about the same length as the Tail of the Dragon but has half as many curves - but it appears the straights are much longer and the climb much steeper with a far more appealing view.

It is on my bucket list. ;)

I guess I see certain things as a challenge and after that it becomes attack at will. One day me and a buddy were riding in San Francisco and found the famous Lomard St ( crookedest street in the world ) a one way only street. Well after riding down the street ( BORING ) I decided to ride up the hill against downhill traffic rapidly pissing off a lot of people. That took the boring away but still not real exciting. Back around to the bottom to try to wheelie up Lombard St ( now that's exciting ) cars kept slamming on their brakes on , it took me 4 wheelies to get to the top , my buddy did it in 2 ! After terrorizing the landmark for almost 30 minutes we could hear sirens heading our way so it was time to leave the area. On to Fishermans Wharf to ride on the sidewalks for a spell.  ;D ;D ;D
