Title: MAURIZIO's NEW PAINT JOB Post by mpescatori on 10/10/18 at 01:59:48 Hello all, I know it's been a looong time since my last post. Yes, I'm still around, alive and kickin' and the Savage has been put back on the road after some 2 years hibernation. I have replaced the OEM 2.5 gal tank with what they swore was a 16 LITER tank... http://https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/BwEMOs8WYKP4Im29OAEcSQ_zfngr2z76L4TiQweVQh7xs3QvAVq8CzUwtsMt0AFKpvpUrFAkW51H_OSuPUqmrWqxAcuNhLzwi4VZvMMrACeOdXIF0qBPJoOnc7dhWDh-rd8mrHmOHduJ0Qr3XIMSto1kJy9zeN-n_NYECNhnYTBnRHSjHuWGSn7INyLEUsl3yCuMZGbqr52pE0kCcEMfJhsufAdUFhmW6NaMBRFbfGVnftRl8kMtssnFn9eOcLtyghfjjj8Oboz93VW4iayyz4Np0aQzR067seZsJiy3qJPPrYtMkOB3DG49ZdpbAYhyicIxLCHNAIvJfI35kiLZ22l67vTLgSw-hjU5NNoYDPBwBT8D63nXDWRroDZmJYjyA363sXliL_cv5EvFS-ZMDZUFj456JxXId8HX5hl9eY_xu0cQLLZvfgUYr6zephT_RoLcfkrPEtyVk8tSx8d72n8fuonQF6zigMf46dapTERY9AvQYYmgwJ3D7szmwRiBbvFamQ7autp1oHlWslk2jyJ3FmydoGjf3IF002LfQysnT1zw-9AEMp1-D8_pBJ1cfItQRnBjoE9mJ-uS-CWzjWSXlAA8zHTbxFxg3OCMqrNOiGSN23X3ZpUixSaLqPxf9cOJul1ufCRXnCh7hBv5yR3e8BwKREYbV5LvTE1wkvOvgh1dUJgoYUl3mA=w445-h889-no HD of some kind... but it was in such poor shape I had to run Tankerite in it...twice! http://https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/gNXs5FlL9W_ymeB_rW52wcnszkeMEMmfZuV7mWBiumerIO20jyhCATrSmRU3fOtZjf0asi3GysX6Kg_I5PA0vonBMty-p_AEU1Ts9sOWK7WGIpLuMEilnQ0TC-8WxMetIhyvRsuOVVbb_JFwpDFvcDhcYrYUHoVvQVbxXZRmexMaVg7DWaE4_xAtJ0AGNujmQ6ONM9pRWI76NPX2JBzhUHBeEEGLY8kPNEkBSScnXwG3Dt5wel_4NLCh8c1S2gGWQS__93L4h15Nv7hBoVY4XRj1dRxj_TLYlrbQlq5zhWG2kn2YsXr561xr6sc3f4jyZZ4kwy77Yk7O5-jTxxTYrG1YkWn4wARsdIU52qxhGPvq8iJOqsJSDDaHx6TA8NuGHKADMIe4mT0pe2kqvYvuPRS8niXnlF4JYuuv03bJF7VMtDgMknNd3MJNMCUwOqwLyWbZ96TZ31QeEb5IvWW8IFit_0MsFls-NWbPRadKcpbzw8Neu8qtpvEnY4wPf7ZIdws-7B_TMNcH6P311m6dPuxaIyusQJamP0vedNhtitSEnulkgoyRJAQwgLkDaZJLRkxRlwL84Y6vHtXXRKAHg4xSxqtr1dbJpeShnv6LNKBZCHbS3Iq6kwLRv3D0g3bxw83xEDsadNWi15DGH66q4GPXLr2ugUoKa-70ZZmK6AWRtwj-vMxEbJaF7w=w667-h889-no So now the "16 LITER" tank barely holds 14... or maybe it's the Pingle petcock with a huge reserve. Anyway, what I like about it is the twin filler caps... ...and a very peculiar paint job ! 8-) http://https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Sh3-uaxSksKb7aB9N2P1_XanRpSeojl2Ei2U7j6n6Y4MrjkRvmGoFLjki_nB7CWWemGEG_37VKKga82md9IHLm24B1yD60Fo2YHbTleaA4rPcu9om9wj7r-I6OuS8WhJsKuUv_0BoNxUPj3OgHqtBze9FifhyKKphNJ0pUlZO_40vrbwwkOP8OShi0SsmVEosqfaOY62m7dgyOgO_QEf55Bv3cgRgHoUPzkM_sNy02xHp8JBLvJqKbp4GUNTNPIUKi0gjlKvHCvCPKxuDwdiQa4BT_nhI7GTirX9hoEPh78C8bKAW6kLb2vwf4QFxNIKVA0WNtLyrnhnMbHES7pNTbn0AmkTvNQrqCS2TKu0DtJLFkJrwQ6AkcopNLxrN9RL112SntvunVjiYSDmgLyixK_R6-xyWta3kR2QA63Y6u61EJyzDlLmpoAIQRt5fJoOj9frjY_KcJTByJTZmNtCgJq0TlgtqXhM15RXSAwg7zjQYShVLYAvCtWOvbCbmPNrEo7u5euz0jtWExsOg15ZSx9zaU0n3TNFHDZVBWPdECK3riJCcq9tKYMo4BBQry5FkfHJBWEuFJyJmX0s5feCWZZG4PKV9ThPqeS2eM1jeoVauoDaJKgnW-s8Pkz63kSuoEmF1E5G6bYIu_rDRXlZwaX6y9nlLpBvB4BAO5XZZ0J6e-c7Tyfv7MkxCQ=w1186-h889-no That, and a new cam chain (the old one was so slack I could hear it rattle!) and she's a joy to ride ! Title: Re: MAURIZIO's NEW PAINT JOB Post by justin_o_guy2 on 10/10/18 at 02:14:22 I've missed you. What possessed you to paint Natron on it? Aside from the obvious use of Norton? Natron is a naturally occurring mixture of sodium carbonate decahydrate (Na2CO3·10H2O, a kind of soda ash) and about 17% sodium bicarbonate (also called baking soda, NaHCO3) along with small |

Title: Re: MAURIZIO's NEW PAINT JOB Post by DragBikeMike on 10/10/18 at 06:23:58 That’s totally cool, old school. I love it Maurizio. When do we get to see the rest of your Savage Commander? |

Thank you for your :-* words, I am moved to tears... ;D NATRON is, science aside, the salty mixture used by Egyptyan priests to commence the embalming ritual of Pharaohs - the road to Eternal Life. To me, in dire and hard times, the Savage was my Natron - my initial step towards a new life. I've had her since October 2005, and I've been asked/told/begged/ordered to sell it more than once, but NO, she stays 8-) As for the rest, I'm now looking for a springer seat and low slung pullback bars. Not buckhorns - something akin to the 1950's. I replaced the OEM fat 15" wheel and ridiculous fat 150/80 tire with a 17" wheel and 130/90 tire - so from the rear she looks more like a Sportster (or a RE Bullet). I had also found a 19" wheel with a hu-uge drum brake, but it came off a russian Dnepr, and good as those bikes may be, I wasn't feeling happy... So the OEM disc stays, albeit the drilled rotor courtesy of Verslagen. And his Verslavy. I also removed the sissybat and fitted a luggage rack. More to come ;) |
Title: Re: MAURIZIO's NEW PAINT JOB Post by Drifter.. on 10/11/18 at 13:41:01 Do you have pics of it mounted on the bike? |
Title: Re: MAURIZIO's NEW PAINT JOB Post by justin_o_guy2 on 10/12/18 at 05:35:04 Well Now you're screwed. No bat for smashing sissies? Are you looking for handlebars kinda like the old Schwinn fat tire bikes? Kinda wide, ? How cool, Natron has a historical meaning, part of the burial process, And Looks enough like Norton, (interesting choice of font and style, BTW ) to make anyone look. Now you can't sell it. Your mummy gave it to you. |
Title: Re: MAURIZIO's NEW PAINT JOB Post by jcstokes on 10/12/18 at 23:47:12 I've read that Natron can be corrosive and some ancient ruler used to coat living people with it, as a punishment. |
