Title: Tires ... again Kenda 671 ?
Post by MMRanch on 10/03/18 at 09:23:08

Seems like a never ending chore , kind of like laundry … there just ain't no long term solution  !

I recently came into possession of a 2007 GS-500 with lots of problems , one of which is bald tires .
There was a rear (down to wear-bars) tire in the shop that should last till I sell the bike in the spring.
The Front is a different matter.    Has anybody tried the Kenda 671 tire ?
If I was keeping the bike I'd spring for a AM26 AVON , but being that its a resale machine … the smallest investment = the biggest return .  :)

If you can fit a set of AM26* on a GS, I'll pay for them!!

*They are 19" only!!!!  :)

I know because I was looking at the possibility of lacing up a 19" rear wheel.

EDIT:  DEAL IS OFF!!!!!  Looks like they sell that tire in all kinds of sizes.  Strange since thier website only lists 19" sizes: http://www.avonmotorsport.com/historic/motorcycle/am26---roadrider

I must be looking in the wrong place.  Or maybe the right place since I was looking for 19" tires!! :)

Ohiomoto:

You linked to the Motorsports tires....and the AM26 racing compound.

The AM26 street compound is available in a wide range of sizes.

Don't worry , I wouldn't hold ya to it :   :)

Speed rated to 149 mph is fast enough for anything I'm ridding .  ;D

That's the tire I've got on my guzzi - front 100/90-18  and rear 130/90-17 … next time I'll try a 140/90-17 to get the extra gearing.  ;)

Anybody tried a Kenda 671 ?   I'm thinking the 130/80-17 for the GS500 ,  I've never had a Kenda tire , I suspect they use different compounds in different series.    If I ride the GS much this winter I'll have to put a tire on the rear too.  :-[

Must be a fast tire!!  Or just wears out fast? hahah

I was contemplating a slimmed down grasstrack/speedway style build with 19" hoops front and rear.  Not a ton of 19" tires that will fit a stock swingarm. :)

Ain't no tire going to have to worry about me running 149mph .    The larger dia. tires last longer too.

That GS looks funny with that 110/70-17 being so short !   Looks like a Scooter tire sorta .   ::)

Metzlers cost up front.
But, with just a little over 5,000 miles of hard accelerating, quick stops, downshift, the rear is finally squaring off.
I figure I'll avoid at least one tire change, Ohhh, wait, I already have! Every Other tire has been dead at 5,000, I may get around twelve, so, save thirty bucks or so in tire swap labor, and then the balance beads, tube, that drops the cost of the tire.
AND I'm not pulling the wheel so often.

Downside
A little exciting on wet roads and hot enough to be greasy corners.

Yea JOG

That's the same way I think about those "Long Lasting Tires" , the cost of mounting two short life tires makes the double-life tires look even better.

I'm only looking at the Kenda for a machine I'm planning on selling with "Fresh Rubber" to sweeten the deal.

So , nobody is speaking up for the 671 Kenda tire .    I might be the first to write the review ?  :-?
I ordered one for the front , it should be here next Tuesday .
