Title: Something in my clutch broken?
Post by TTom on 09/06/18 at 17:56:33

Hey all,

Was hoping to not have to get on here so soon after just having had an electrical issue, but something went inside my bike.

Long story short, I was sitting at a red light when all of a sudden I heard a pop of sorts and my bike jumped a bit and stalled out.  In a panic I walked the bike into a parking lot.  There I realized my whole clutch handle was loose.  Just flapped back and forth.  I thought my clutch cable had snapped, but it was moving the little bar up and down that goes into the back of the engine.  There was no resistance whatsoever to moving that bar, so I suspect something broke inside.

Since I have not yet gotten to the level of dealing with clutches, I had it towed to a local shop.

After reading around on forums some, it looks like it's pointing to a throw-out bearing.  Not sure if it's common for something like that to fail so catastrophically after only 6000 miles, so was wondering if anyone has any insight.  The shop I took it to is a favorite with local riders so I'm hoping I get some honest answers and work.

If anyone has had this happen to them, fill me in.  Not sure how my bike would have responded if I was cruising when this happened.

Ouch!  :-/ Well that wasn't a fun read.  Here's to hoping the clutch cam didn't do damage to other components.  At least I'll be able to discuss it a bit more with the shop tomorrow. I'll be happy to get out of there with just an hour or two of labor + parts.

That oring costs about nothing.
I'd put in a new one.

Those sintered metal paddles are crap.
I wish I had a billet machined one.
