Title: Smoky startup
Post by Hiko on 09/01/18 at 18:34:25

My driveway is short and steep right up to the garage door. The other day in order to not fill the garage with exhaust fumes I coasted the bike down to the road and started up there . Clouds of what I presume to be oil smoke
came out for first minute or so .
Never done this before [never coasted down the driveway before]
I can only think that oil spilled over the exhaust valve stems from the cam bath?
The valve guides are that slack?  Only done 3500 km.

Coasting a bike down the driveway won't hurt anything, and your valve seals are likely not the issue.

Are the temperatures beginning to cool off in your area?

In cooler temps the bike emits a bit of moisture from the exhaust until things war up.....water vapor is a byproduct of combustion.

What color smoke?...
White = water,.. (or Seafoam)
Blueish = oil
black = fuel

Well I did the same thing today coasted down the drive and started up on the road ---Nothing
I am thinking now that what I saw before must have been water vapour
We have had rainy humid weather lately so maybe it was moisture in the exhaust  Very dramatic though and I have never seen that before
It was whitish color

That's why you should see if what you saw is something to be bothered by.

Before trying to solve a problem
Make sure you have one.

I'm not bitchinn..
Just an old guy who didn't always repeat the event..
It's too easy to let an anomaly get you thinking.
