Title: Vacuum Cap recommended size
Post by Vinny68 on 08/27/18 at 06:29:18

Good day.  I am preparing to do the the recommended Raptor Petcock install and wanted to ask a quick question.  If I were to get a Vacuum Cap to cap off the end as opposed to stopping up the vacuum hose, what is the necessary size and is this something that can be grabbed at Autozone/O'Reillys.  Sorry if the answer is available elsewhere I have not been able to locate it.

Thank you for your time, I appreciate the help.

I believe the vacuum nipple is 1/4".(Prob. metric but 1/4" is close enough)  You can get a blister pack assortment of sizes for a buck or so at any auto parts store.  I put a small worm clamp on mine just to be sure it sealed.

There is a pinned Post in the technical section that says 3/16"

You have the perfect guide.
Take the vacuum line with you.
IMO, best, easiest answer is wooden dowel shoved into the shortened vacuum line. The caps eventually crack and leak.

True dat.  Check your vacuum cap occasionally if it's what you're using.  Mine was in pretty bad shape once.  Looked like an old weathered tire after sitting in the desert sun for a decade.  They must not tolerate the heat from the cylinder.

When you buy and install the vacuum cap....put a spare one in your tool kit

If you want to use a piece of the vacuum hose - cut a short section and install it on the carb nipple, and then install a metal screw in the open end - with a bit of sealer on the threads.  It works fine....doesn't look as good as a genuine vacuum cap.

Thanks for all the advice, made the swap this evening and I could not be happier.  Much much easier with all the information and help on the site.
