Does anyone have an idea on what would cause a battery to drain after being charged a few hours earlier? The battery I have was purchased new a few months ago and I just started having issues with it. It will start my bike right after it's charged but not after I disconnect the charger and let it sit.
First thought was a bad battery (dead cell). That doesn't appear to be the issue.
When I shut down the Bike, I always check to make certain that the key is in the off position, not the position that keeps the parking lights on.

Let's rule out the battery. Bring it to a full charge disconnected from the bike and see if it holds a charge. If it does, you have a parasitic drain on your electrical system, likely from a shorted wire before the ignition switch - or a bad switch itself. Do a search on the light bulb method of finding a shorted wire.

Also, the decomp controller may be bad.
Test the battery 1st.
next disconnect the decomp controller (black box over carb)
or connect an amp meter

With key in OFF position, disconnect the negative battery cable. Connect one lead of voltmeter to the battery, the other to the negative cable. If the meter does not read a voltage you do not have a parasitic drain on the battery.
