Title: Trump thinks WTC 'burned down'
Post by eau de sauvage on 08/09/18 at 18:36:33

Trump is championing new used for Asbestos, which is now only manufactured in significant quantities by Russia. Trump is a big fan of asbestos which which has so far cost the US 70 billion dollars in the largest tort case in history.

Here's an archived tweet of his from 2012

If we didn't remove incredibly powerful fire retardant asbestos & replace it with junk that doesn't work, the World Trade Center would never have burned down. http://www.twitlonger.com/show/jm9f46

He thinks the WTC 'burned down'? How stupid is this person. It freaking fell down due to the high temperatures softening the steel that held it up. We all saw it collapse in on itself. It did not freaking burn down.

2012? Do you have a current link where he's advocating asbestos and the reasoning behind it?

It's just a part of a more general attack on anything good Obama did. Trump appointed EPA officials who were outspokenly hostile to environmental protection. That's what he, Trump, wanted.

https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/trump-rsquo-s-epa-may-be-weakening-chemical-safety-law/

Asbestos, trichloroethylene, pigment violet 29—these are just three of thousands of chemicals the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is assessing for risks to human health and ecosystems under the revamped Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA).

You ask what is the reasoning? Why the reasoning is purely to make money. If Lanford Hastings had his way America would not have Yosemite or any national parks for that matter. As this passage shows from one of his 1850's guidebooks.

I cannot but believe that the time is not distant when those wild forests, trackless plains untrodden valleys and the unbounded ocean will present one grand scheme of continuous improvement universal enterprise and unparalleled commerce.

When those vast forests will have disappeared before the hardy pioneer, where those extensive plains will abound with innumerable herds of domestic animals. Those fertile valleys will groan under the immense weight of their abundant products. When those numerous rivers will team with countless steamboats, where the entire country will everywhere be intersected with turnpike roads, railroads, and canals.

And when all the vastly numerous and rich resources of that now almost unknown region will be fully and advantageously developed. Hastings said this was ‘the march of civilisation’.

Thank you for providing the links. This has not reached the news here.

While asbestos is a nasty thing, there are also likely situations where its good properties can warrant its use despite the potential ill effects. So it remains to see how EPA will act and what use they will allow.

I do, however, agree that this is all about making money for the one-percenters and has little to do with care for humanity or the globe.
