Title: Run flat shinko tire!
Post by batman on 07/29/18 at 20:16:07

Having ordered a new back tire and waiting for it to come in , I needed to take a last round trip on the bike ,some 80 miles .  About 5 miles into the return trip (35 miles from home) I hit a sharp object in the road and it punctured the center of the tire and tube. (a 140/90/15-712 shinko). As luck would have it the beads stayed on the rim , the center of the tire being thin folded in forming a uu shape ,but the side walls were stiff enough to support the bike and keep the rim 2" of the pavement ,and allowed me to ride the bike home on the shoulder at 30-35 mph, stopping every 10 miles to allow the tire time to cool (no help was around -country roads- it was ride or push  )without damaging the rim (lucky!)  I have since mounted a new tire and tube with a 90 degree stem, another shinko !

Glad you are ok Batman. That tire stuff can be tricky if you happen to be on a bend.

Yes luckily I was going straight up a hill when it popped , I just let of the gas and coasted to the side of the road. I was just amazed that I could ride it home and not kill myself or damage the bike.

Good to know the tire can do that. Thanks for sharing.

Yes  a 712  ,and it stayed on the rim ,I couldn't believe it ! the bike tracked fine at 30-35 mph  with just a bit of added vibration .I believe it would have gone many more miles if carefully driven.
