Title: pilot mixture screw
Post by madmikesmech on 07/22/18 at 03:33:10

Hello all,
To make a long story short, ive got 2 CV mikunis, gonna make 1 good one. One has a mixture screw that is stuck, tried removing as suggested in numerous posts, NO GO! Anyhow, the second one had only the screw and spring, no washer or O-ring.
What section of the diameter does the washer go, and what diameter does the O-ring go?

Spring, washer and O-ring all go on the thick part of the screw.

The washer and O-ring are basically the same diameter as the spring, and the spring pushes on the O-ring to help it seal.  The washer goes between the spring and O-ring to keep the spring from cutting into the rubber.

Push the spring on the screw, then the washer, then the O-ring...then insert it into the carb body.

Mods, maybe save this somewhere better in TRD or maybe with the carb tuning section (if it hasn't already been done....I didn't have time to go searching myself  ;))

Wow Stew.....even the mixture screw on our bike is clean and tidy!

Thank you everyone for all your input.
THANK YOU Stewmills for taking the time to look up that thread!
That is XACTLY what i needed to see.

The carb i COULD get the screw out of had nothing but the screw and a spring.
This was on a garage find bike with only 7000 miles ballpark ( id have to look to get exact mileage.
But who knows who was into it and for what reason, the mixture screw "anti tamper" cap was already removed. Now, the other bike i got in that package deal has 18,000+ miles, but still has the anti tamper cap in place. The bike i ride is a '99 and the P.O. had removed the anti tamper cap, but in the process also removed the SLOT on the head of the screw!![ch128559]

Happy to help, and best of luck with the screw that has been boogered up with the screw head.  Remember that these are brass and soft, so there is a chance that you could be VERY careful with a really sharp but small chisel or sharpened flat head screwdriver and try to get it out to be replaced with another new one.  You could try drilling it out on a drill press, but the risk of slipping and damaging the threaded walls is high unless you are very good with a drill press and your doesn't have a tendency to 'walk' around on you.

I have never done it, but my thinking is that you first lube up the hole really well with penetrating oil.  Then, VERY carefully without touching the threaded walls of the hole, tap the sharp screwdriver into the brass head just enough (don't smash the snot out of it) to get it to bite so you can try to then turn the screw out. I would suggest maybe covering the metal shaft of the screwdriver (or tiny chisel) with several wraps of electrical tape or small plastic tubing so should it rub the threaded walls it won't scar or fold the fine threads in there.

If it is running fine, I'd leave well enough alone.  :o

Yeah, but we know that there is no way it is as clean as the cafe bike is  ;)
