Title: Do I need to replace my rear brakes?
Post by JohnsonLager on 06/27/18 at 18:52:13

How can I tell if I need to replace my rear brakes? They are are worn past the marker so I adjusted the cable.  After I got them back in the marker range they were really stiff so I split the difference.  To me, they seem like they need to be replace but I read on the forum that the s40 rear brake rarely needs to be replaced.  Is that true?

Are the brake shoes really worn or was the brake arm removed and put back in the wrong position? the only way to know is to look ,unless your the first owner.

Batman,
It's very possible.  I have removed the brake arm myself and can't be sure if I reinstalled it correctly.  How can I check?
Also, the last time I did that it would have been apprx 2 years ago and 3k miles ago or so and only over the past few weeks have the rear brakes started to feel 'thin'

I'd pull the rear wheel and look at the shoes .replace if they need it,  grease the shaft and make sure the return spring and arm are in there proper place.

I thought mine needed replacement too until I pulled the wheel. Looked darn near new.
