Title: This will add up.......
Post by raydawg on 06/21/18 at 08:42:09

Supreme Court rules states can force online retailers to collect sales tax

http://money.cnn.com/2018/06/21/technology/wayfair-vs-south-dakota/index.html

This will be a big deal for states.
Think about it, they have no skin in the game, nothing, yet they will get revenue from the work of others.

Even if guys like Versy, who sales a mod part here, might be in violation if he doesn't charge tax and send it in.
Anybody who sales anything on eBay, used, or otherwise.

All the "facts" are not out yet, but tax to politicians is like blood in the water to a shark....

It will add another layer to my wife's internet business too, it seems, as she sells her beads all over the world.

Guess we'll see how this works out, but once that genie is out, she ain't never going back.

They've been pushing that way, wrongly, for a long time.
It's another wrongheaded step

It reminds me of the misstep recently in Seattle, the head tax.
Government has become a greedy self consuming entity, its only concern is ensuring its own welfare of continuance.....
Instead of being a entity to serve the people, it has become a massive parasite.
This mindset is ripe from the local public sector, all the way to DC.

What is really hurting this nation is NOT immigration, healthcare, terrorist, etc, NO, its a out of control entity, that's main, and only real concern is, self.
The money they funnel into their own welfare, could solve so many of the others.....

Ok, bye, I'm off to enjoy retirement  ;D

I already pay tax on internet sales.
California requires you pay sales tax where none was paid.
Some states collect it, some don't.
Where it isn't, I need to report it when I file income tax.

Let me see if I have this right....

If a state like Washington, which has no sales tax, when I bought my tensioner, you had to pay California their sales tax rate anyway, to them, yes?
Now if my state had a sales tax, you would pay the tax to only my state, and not yours?

The way our tax law is written, I pay my local tax rate regardless where it's purchased.
I haven't checked but when I'm taxed for an on line purchase, it's supposed to be that rate and forwarded to cali.

Seeing this was on the way we enacted legislation placing tax revenue from online sales to the city instead of the state.  This only applies to items purchased from the city/county borders but its better it goes there than straight to the state in my opinion.

You want to expand on that please.
Maybe use a example transaction, buyer pays what, seller pays what, and to whom.

From what I understand when a buyer purchases something online, that originates from the city there is a 6% sales tax that goes to the city.

Its like driving to the city to buy an item from the same store, except there's no driving, you do it online from wherever you are.

Brilliant !  Perfect way to encourage everyone to order everyfu*kin' thig they can from Chinese ebay sellers instead of American online retailers.

Government greed and stupidity, State and Federal together. Can't beat that for pure genius.

Yes indeed. We can rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic that is our Government, but the SOB is still gonna sink us. Got yourself a lifeboat? The folks that come up with this c*ap got a nice one. And you and I don't have a seat in it.

I hope you're right. Besides, making sure some of that money winds up in the hands of local government is probably a good idea. None of those folks are crooks, are they? Haven't made it to the big league yet ? That takes a while.

I just moved 6 figures into CD's and bonds today......
Yeah, not much yield, but not any risk, either.

I am doing this because I think the democrats are desperate to do anything to win the election(s), and the economy is Trumps best asset.

I believe you are mistaken.

I purchase lots of stuff online, as the island lacks much choice in products.
I do not always get taxed, not on my end anyhow.

UPDATE: I just checked some eBay purchases, of stuff I bought for the boat.
The total is over a grand, but from different vendors, and I only paid "tax" on 1 purchase.
This was after I loaded the shopping cart, proceeded to check out, then prior to filling out billing.

Not sure how any of this is working out now, but I gotta feeling the established retail marketing chains are calling in chits, as the swamp drains.....

I'm quite sure the Supreme Court made the ruling.  In what capacity am I mistaken?

They may all be crooks.  The day I don't commit crimes anymore is the day I concern myself with what someone else is doing.  When I have a chance I move things in my favor, sometimes that's local tax policy.

So you're a crook too? The law is just for the little people ?  Not for the likes of you?

"So you're a crook too? The law is just for the little people ?  Not for the likes of you? "

I wouldn't classify myself as a crook, but I do not follow all laws, and I do not know anyone who does except maybe some in nursing homes.

My point was I don't scrutinize the behaviors of others as I do not live a perfect life myself.  I solve the problems I can, and don't complain about others.

I speed in motor vehicles on public roads.
I never got a motorcycle endorsement.
I do not file my per-diems when doing government contracts.
I used a rain barrel when we weren't allowed to have them.  I blacktopped my entire front lawn and painted it green to be in compliance with a "green upkeep" covenant so I wouldn't have to mow the lawn a minimum of once a week.
I extorted freshmen in high school with false bullying.
I've violated ROE in both Columbia and Iraq.
I've distributed aid material without a license in the effected region.
I've smuggled x-ray film to locations without it.
I carry two cones in my Cadillac and block off parking spots in front of restaurants or bars I plan to go to later.

There's more but I'm not going to take more time on it.

Fine, don’t think many would have a problem.
Seeing as you a saucy a person, as you describe.
However I wonder why, in the statement you made below,

  you didn’t say:
I used to know people who conceal carry, and drink.
I used to  know a lot of them.

Unless it was just a couple of days ago those, ‘parties’ happened.
As most of us are working hard, to be better, knowing we will never be perfect.
One would think, if you observed, some drinking, (Not Pop), and shooting/brandishing,
you would have said/done something.

I tore off the "DO NOT REMOVE UNDER PENALTY OF LAW" tag, on my mattress  ;D

Not sure what that has to do with grunts?

If a person shows up to work with the remnants of a hangover, say, working at Home Depo, is not the same as a Pilot of a commercial aircraft deploying the same bad judgement.

When those who "make" the laws, break them themselves, escape the penalty because of WHO THEY ARE......
Then the law is a total waste and begs to be violated then for OWN PERSONAL WELFARE.....F... the concerns for a societal well being.

Here is what I received from eBay, today.

View in Browser

Dear Ed,
The U.S. Supreme Court has announced their decision on the S. Dakota v. Wayfair case, overturning the long-standing rule that states could not tax businesses or sellers outside of their borders. Now is the time for Congress to act on legislation that protects small businesses.
And we need your help.
Please consider signing our petition to show our country's political leaders that these new Internet tax burdens could permanently damage U.S. small businesses. The petition takes less than a minute to complete. We will soon deliver this petition to President Trump, key members of Congress, and select state governors, so we need you to participate now.
eBay has always supported tax policy that is fair to entrepreneurs, artisans, and small businesses. Rest assured that eBay will continue to fight this battle on behalf of all of our valued customers.
Sincerely,
eBay

Rumors now floating around that a new tax will be collected at all Mexican Restaurants, to help pay for these children that Trump wants to harm.
Not only that, but another tax, and royalties, will be collected for anybody using the word, Mexican, in any part of their speech, or product description......

I'm not going to go to other ranchers homes and tell them how to live until they do something to damage my property.  I'm not going to call the sheriff that already knows how people have lived here for decades, I just don't care.  Its not my business.

I'd like to see some references on this.  Taxed for speaking the word Mexican?  Sure that's going to happen..
