Title: 2006 S40 Carb slide
Post by Dan49837 on 06/10/18 at 07:30:59

I have my carb apart, and noticed what appears to be a wear spot on the slide.  Haven't seen this on other carbs I've rebuilt in the past, so wondered if this is something I should be concerned with?

As long as it isn't sticking, no. Pretty sure mine has similar marks as have others I have seen pictured here. Most important thing is to make sure you put it all back in clean with no fingerprints on the slide or carb, so there isn't a place for debris to start attracting and sticking to and leading to a sticky slide.

Handle it like a halogen bulb

And while you are in that deep, I presume you have seen the threads in the tech section regarding carb tuning, more specifically jetting, air mix screw, and white spacer mod? Jetting may or may not be needed, but these bikes are lean from the factory and those three items will make an angry running bike run smooth and top notch.

Thank you!  Yes, I have read many of the posts, and found them very helpful when I initially rebuilt the carb as well as my previous Intruder, but this one sat in storage for a few years, so I'm cleaning it out, and noticed that wear mark on the slide.  Thank you again!
