Title: Replaced stock muffler
Post by HamTemptation on 06/08/18 at 00:49:35

Helo!

Yesterday I took off the stock muffler from my -89 Savage and replaced it with Harley's slip-on. The muffler was quite stuck and removing it took a while.. With some force and certain lubrication oil it finally gave up.

Now that the slip-on is in place (and the sound is awesome) I am wondering if I should change other parts as well since there is no 'strangled' muffler anymore but an empty slip-on.

Before the change my Savage started just fine but now I need to apply some throttle while starting, else it fails to start. After starting it runs fine though.

Is there another strangled point somewhere in the beginning of the pipe's curve? Should I look forward to getting a bigger nozzle?

Please feel free to correct my terms  ::)

Read carb tuning threads.

You changed the fuel mixture by doing that.
At least an 89 should have pretty fast jets from the factory.

There are a few guys here who really know how to get a carburetor squared away.
