Title: [ch127755] volcanos......
Post by raydawg on 06/07/18 at 06:08:14

Watching Pele work it’s craft in Hawaii is humbling as well as amazing....
Kinda funny, in a odd way, that man thinks so much of his own importance in the effect he has over Mother Earth....
Anyways, I was wondering what in the heck happens to the area within the volcanos fissures, after it has spewed forth all this mass?
Does/will a giant void be present after she settles down?
Will that void cave in at some point in time, maybe sucking surrounding landmass back into her oven for future eruptions?

Anybody know about these earth pimples?  ;D

Nothing to do at work for two more weeks, just sitting and bored, until my last day, the 21st [ch128523]
So, I was researching volcanos, etc, that is some spooky stuff.
Hawaii is really just one big active zone....

If you want to know about volcanoes, talk to DragBikeMike. He has practically front row seating for what is going on in Hawaii right now.

Hey Ray maybe you could get us some close volcano pics !
Hey Ray don't forget your sun block , about SPF9000 will work !

The Hawaiian islands are nothing but the result of volcanism. Look at the islands shapes and the location of the volcanoes.
The island is getting bigger.
People in the way suffer.
Oops

Yes JOG, but all the upheaved mass came from below, that is creating a bigger island, what is filling in the void left by that?

More HOT LIQUID ROCK from down below. There is like a thousads of miles of that stuff in our core.

Gosh Ray, I'm guessing that the VOID doesn't exist.
Pressure is being released. Nobody has applied a vacuum to Suck lava out.
This is not a new event. It's WHAT CREATED the islands. Whatever dynamics were at work all these years is STILL going on, so it's probably not going to collapse back into itself when it cools down.

So, volcanoes in a sense, create themselves?

Darn, I just can't square in my mind where all this mass came from.....
Seems somewhere it had to come from?????  :-/

No Ray, a volcano is a geological event created by the events in the Earths guts.
Zits aren't their own creations. They are a result of things happening below. Pressure is created. The ELIMINATION of that Pressure doesn't create a Void. It equalizes the pressure.

The Pacific plate is moving towards the Mariana  trench  between The Philippines and Japan. Hawaii is over a hot spot of magma. This hot spot stays put, as it's below the moving Pacific plate. It's been there for millions of years.

So, as the plate crosses the hot spot, lava spews up to create the islands, and then as the islands move closer to the Mariana trench, they sink back down in to the ocean. This is why the islands get smaller and smaller the further northwest you go. You'll also notice that the volcanic  activity is on the south east side of the island, this would be the part of the hot spot above sea level. The hottest part is just a few miles southeast of the island.

Eventually the island of Hawaii will pass this hot spot and stop growing, and start sinking back in to the ocean, and a new island will get pushed up by this hot spot.

So, there is no void, the lava coming up will sink back down in to the crust, and then be consumed by the big cauldron that the Mariana trench is.

(I got all this from watching Nova, back when it was still a good show).

WOW, that is cool, so in effect, like water, it is finite on our planet, yet it is cyclical, in the way the earth uses it, falls, evaporation, waterways, etc.

The earth is moving its mass around too, creating, then reclaiming, etc...

AMAZING!  :o

Yeah, Ray, look carefully at the land masses. See how closely they come to fitting together? Drag north America toward the east. They are close..

Yeah, I remember being taught that, but I filed that away in the same cabinet folks did when folks foretold about man walking on the moon, or that the world was round  ;D

If only nature could push some mass away from the dinner table, might help put a better spin on healthcare  ;)

Your forgetting the mid pacific ridge ,the plate is moving both east and west ,that plate slides under Japan , Alaska , and the U,S. west coast, home to a lot of volcanos /earthquakes It also replaces all the mass lost to volcanic eruptions .I would not look to see the eruptions on the island to stop anytime soon ,as the plate it sits on only moves about as fast as your fingernail grows in a year (3/4 of an inch) which means it is escaping the hot spot at the rate of 1 mile every 8,448 years, (or just under 1/4 of a mile since the birth of Christ). the chain of islands is 1500 miles long ,the oldest is between 7-8 million years and the big island 1-1.7 million years old, which kind of tells you they don't move to fast even if you light a fire under their butt,
.

WOW, that is amazing.....
Not sure why its piquing my interest now, maybe just seeing the pictures....
Thanks for the info, that is some amazing amount of mass moving, er, I said mass, right?  ;D
