Yeah, I know, it’s not sex, but.......

But a more serious case of apparent misconduct involves Facebook data going to a different presidential campaign – this time in 2012. In this case, which is getting far less attention, Facebook reportedly voluntarily provided data on millions of its users to the re-election campaign of President Obama.

If true, such action by Facebook may constitute a major violation of federal campaign finance law as an illegal corporate campaign contribution. The matter should be investigated by the Federal Election Commission – an agency I am quite familiar with, because I served as one of its commissioners from 2006 to 2007. The commission enforces campaign finance laws for congressional and presidential elections.

So, is it the selling of data by Facebook the egregious wrongdoing, cuz you can give this personal information away free, or what....

Help me to understand how it’s wrong but it’s ok, depending on what, or who, that is, or was, the reason, why.....

Right, Facebook donated data, what is data worth? can you put a value on it? or is it only worth what someone will pay for it? and if it's only worth what someone will pay for it, if someone is giving it away for free, then isn't it worth nothing?

Trump didn't pay Facebook for data. Trump's campaign paid Cambridge Analytica to get them data, Cambridge Analytica then abused Facebook's policy for sharing data and people downloaded an app that then scraped their data and all their friends data under the guise of "Academic research"

no one was claiming that the Facebook data is an in-kind political contribution against either campaign, until some conservative pundits got their panties in a wad

You really don't remember all the impeachment calls when that happened? There was an actual investigation.

It was on the news daily, I can't recall anyone in an official capacity that's ever said "that's cool" or similar.

Nobody cares today, primarily because he hasn't been in office for decades.

That didn't happen. Cambridge Analytica was contracted to get information, they were intentionally deceptive. Genius in its application but not forthright.

I wonder what happens if you hire someone to pay someone to gather information on a political opponent.
And how much different that is from just GOING to get the information yourself..

Obama, genius, and zuckerberg made it easy for them,

People are going to be upset either way.

Pro-Trump are cool with it, others not. Pro-Obama were cool with his methods.

My concern is that people literally volunteer to be a part of the collection process then get upset when the information is used. What is a collection of your data for? To not be used?
