Title: Cafe Conversion
Post by JWR4 on 03/07/18 at 17:27:42

Does anyone have a source for shorter throttle and clutch cables? I'm finishing a Ryca cafe conversion and the cables are way too long for the clip-ons.

Thanks,

JR

If you are able to solder you can make your own. There are kits available that provide everything you need. There are several online shops that can custom make cables. Make a dummy cable from string and route the string how you'd like your cables. Make sure you leave enough slack for full left/right travel of the bars.

Did you get Ryca's cables with your kit?  I've purchased a few items from them and though they seem a little expensive, I've been happy not having to chase parts around.

If you already have their stuff and it's still too long, then you probably want to do what Gary said and make your own.

Revival Cycles sells kits:

Thanks to Youtube, I've learned it is doable to shorten the cable myself.  It's been a lot of work to implement the conversion, and I was hoping I could use a cable off another model. I'll break out the torch and do it myself.

For what it's worth, I was able to use the OEM throttle cable. I simply wrapped it around the carb. Instead of the carb cable come from the front right side of the carb, it approaches from the rear right side. Looks normal and works perfectly.

The clutch cable was completely wrong due to the 90 degree bend at the bar end.

There are places out there that will make cables for you. All you have to know is the cable end types. you can even send pictures. And then figure out your length. It's been too long for me to remember the name, but there are a few you can look up.

Venhill Cable (venhillusa.com) supplies cable kits as well as custom cables.

Here is how I routed the throttle cable. You can see how it wraps around from the rear. Note, the cable running from the top left of the photo to the bottom right is NOT the throttle cable, it's a temporary placement of the clutch cable (prior to having a custom cable made).

I always use motion pro for my custom cables of all types
