Title: rear fender mounting?
Post by savageguy1 on 02/28/18 at 14:31:26

i would like to mount my fender to the swing arm, and i would not like to buy the blue caollar bobbers kit, could just drill and tap a hole in the front of th where the tire sits? then i could use a spacer between the frame and fender, could pleas see pic of the fender mounts of anyone hwo has done this?

I just bought a TC bros. Weld on mount and will be putting it on soon. Welds to the swing arm and has 2 holes for the fender. I'll make custom struts for the top side/rear of fender.

It's true that the fender has to be affixed  to the swingarm at the front, but I always thought that if I were going to do this type of  fender that moves up and down ,I'd make the rear braces anchored by the lower shock mount and hidden behind the shock for a clean look that would make the rear of the fender look as if it was just floating in mid air. Just crazy! never mind!

That would look slick. Giving me new ideas.

I've done that before. for the front mount, all you need is a simple "L" bracket affixed to the swingarm. side struts you make up as you go along

"IF" was going to mount the fender that way I'd use a door hinge slightly narrowed , one half  fixed to the swing arm and the other to the fender,  the hinge pin would be a bit longer with the end drilled to accept a washer and small cotter pin. the braces fitting behind the socks would be drilled and then notched( like the rear mount on the stock belt guard) toward the front of the bike allowing the shock mounts to be loosened and the fender removable. just crazy, never mind!

You don't need a hinge. The fender follows the movement of the swing arm AND the rear tire like it's one piece. I've done a few of theses

removable with 3 bolts

The hinge was  an idea for an easy release , for removal, say when changing tires as the bike would only have to be raised enough to roll the tire in and out,  not to pivot the fender.

Yoshi, are those fender struts still working out for you? I'm considering going the same route with mine, just wanted to see how you liked it. Seems like the easiest way to go without too much welding/ drilling of the swingarm.

The fender is bolted to the swingarm in 1 area then the fender struts in the back, works out great
