Here are some pictures of a café bike I built a few years ago.
Sorry it is the wrong bike.

Nice! Is that a dream? What year bike and what year did you mod it?

No. I acquired a couple of CB77s and cannibalized them to make one good one. The bodywork was 2024 alloy which I'm sure you will be familiar with.

I have to admit it was in the late 70s when I did it. :'(

Don't be sorry, it's not the wrong bike.   :)

At the time it was a labour of love.

I always like the tac, and speedo combo on those early Hondas.

My friend told me about a guy who had  750 American Eagle (Laverda)  back in the day. He had put a Honda gas tank on it and went out stomping on Triumphs and Sportsters. Great fun if they did not look to closely.  :D

I remember that Laverda :)

The Laverda motor looked like the Honda, and the Honda motor looked like a Horex motor, so who copied who? (I know Horex was first)
Then again there was Benelli with their 500 4, Say that looks like?  ::)

It is nice to see a real cafe bike built back in the day.
Unlike today where one can put dirt bike tires on a bike and call it cafe.
what next? Rear sets on a chopper? :-[

This is what I started with. Had to get a second engine because someone had tried to split the cases without removing the final bolt.

The bike was a Honda CB77 Super Hawk, 1966 I think. I had no title so can't be sure. I bought it in 1976 however.
It was "interesting" getting the paperwork straight. The Texas authorities were finally convinced when I produced the before and after pictures, invoices and, of course, the finished bike.

I completed the project around Apr. 1977 It took 6/9 months to finish.
My job allowed me to travel the country so I could scour the Honda dealers for parts. It would have been much more difficult to get the parts locally.

I remember back in the day before the internet looking for parts, It was always some number that someone wrote on the cover of the service manual that came with the bike or word of mouth.

Hi,
Do you have a Matchless G11?

Those Matchless/AJS twins were my fovourite back when they were in production.

As you said, hunting for parts pre internet was pretty challenging.
