Title: How do you lift a S40
Post by Blueraven on 02/15/18 at 12:05:14

I use a Sears yellow jack to lift my Harley but it's too wide to lift my Wife's S40.
What do you guys/gals use to lift your S40/Savage off the ground?

Depends on which tire I want up. I use a come along on a rafter in the shop.
A piece of soft 1/2" rope, dropped down on the outside of the frame, up in the middle, between tank and seat lifts the rear.
You can put the sidestand up, lay it over, slip a cinder block under, stand it up, and tie it upright.
Or build the
Lumber Jack
It's described , probably in tech.

what I'm looking to do is get the entire bike off the ground.

I pushed mine on two blocks of wood under the tires, put some blocks under the engine and the exhaust mounting bracket which has a flat bottom, then removed the blocks under the tires.

With a jack lift it would've been much easier.

I made an 20x80 work table out of wood that has a slide-out ramp and tie downs at all four corners. The table top sits at about knee height. I've used this table for 10 years on dirt bikes and street bikes, custom builds and regular maintenance. It's about the best $40-$50 I've ever spent.

depends on how high...
take the tank off and you can hook into the square tube and lift it as high as you want.

front tire off the ground, 2 standard jackstands under the front pegs.
rear tire lift, floor jack under the muffler support arm.

Thanks all for the responses.
I guess there really isn't an easy way to lift the bike off the ground using a jack under the frame.

Looks like if I want it lifted I'm going to have to fabricate something.

thanks again.

Here are a few photos of a quick way to get a single tire up with a jack stand, and photos of the value of a table stand. In this photo the handlebars are strapped to a table. A jack can be inserted below the engine to lift the rear tire. If you strap the rear of the bike of the work bench, the front can be lifted.

Here's a detail photo of how the bike gets strapped down to the work bench.

Here is a photo of my bike table from day one of my cafe build:

Here's a photo of another project on the table. This table secures the bike/frame, puts everything at a perfect working height, and can be stood up against a wall when not in use (it hasn't been not in use for a few years, I have another project on it right now).

Just a heads up; I was able to lift the bike totally off the ground using my Sears yellow jack.
It fits on the frame rails in the front and 1 frame rail in the rear and then I added a piece of 1X4 under the frame brace to make up the 3/4" gap.

Along with a couple of straps for peace of mind the bike is 100% secure while 2 feet off the ground.

for what its worth... the 80$ motorcycle/atv lift from harbor freight just barely fits under my savage and lifts it with ease. I just bought one after my customer let me test fit theirs under my bike.

I just ordered the same one and then saw this thread. It had me worrying I was wasting my time.
