Title: Whoops.. chain tensioner bolt. Help
Post by savagebob on 02/10/18 at 18:19:20

Mucking around a bit hungover today looking for a good place to mount a temp sensor.. absentmindedly undid the chain tensioner bolt from the cylinder head.

Now.. is there any magical way I'm going to be able to put that back without disassembling everything?

take the clutch cover off, take the tension off the chain.
then put the bolt in and wiggle the guide and hopefully the bolt will find home.

Suspected as much. That was a bit dumb of me. I didn't even need to take the whole bolt out ha ha.

Is that a good spot for a temp sensor to go to measure head temps?

Best place for a temp sensor is the left rear head stud.

You will need to clean up the threads and apply new anti-seize...then torque the nut.

What about removing the tank and using the head-stud beside the spark plug? That seems like the easiest head-stud to access without having to remove the cam cover.

I was going to put it under the spark-plug but it looked like the plug wouldn't seat properly if I did that.

Yes it can but you need to grind to open the spot face a little.

I bought an infrared laser guided thermometer of Amazon for $13 great for measuring all over the bike. You can even open the oil filler plug and point it down there as well as over various parts of the engine. It's accurate too.
