Title: 2018 Savage
Post by Frank Cook on 01/24/18 at 13:42:11

Hi. Name is Frank.  Just got first 2018 Savage from Macon GA dealer.  I have swollen left ankle so they had to raise the shifter for me.  All is great except it is near impossible for me to hit 2nd gear.  No matter how far I push up it goes into neutral.  All other gears ok.  Not sure what to do but just wanted to say hi and I love the bike.  May get buckhorns but that might be a bit cramped.

If they just turned the linkage forward one or two teeth on the spline where it comes out of the tranny, the rod to the shifter lever can hit/bind/interfere under the left side cover. If that is it return it to it's original spot and adjust the rod longer.

What he said.  The rod length shuold be adjusted to raise/lower the shifter not moving the block at the splined shaft.

The block on the shaft that goes into the engine should remain at its factory location. Moving the block forward to raise the shifter lessens the amount of movement and leverage provided from the shifter causing shift problems.

Make sure that your shift rod is straight. Bends will cause problems too.

Trying to get first forcefully will end in a busted shifter rod eventually.
