Towards the bottom of this page...
https://procycle.us/bikepages/dr650.html

are a couple of extended pilot screws for the BST40, are they similar to the BS40?

Same screw in LS650 and DR650RSE carbs.

$18.95 plus $10.40 shipping to Colorado, that's $29.35. A bit steep for a screw, especially as they could simply mail it in a padded envelope. I'll pay if necessary, but wonder if someone can find a cheaper source? I tried and failed.

BTW, Babbitt in Michigan sells the factory screw for $7.18, Suzuki part number 13269-37400.

Is this an adjustment that must be tinkered with often?

Set it.
Forget it..

If it weren't $30 I'd consider one too. However, my screw is in great shape and I carry a small $0.99 screwdriver in my handlebar bag for on-the-go adjustments. I've learned that I may need to tweak it slightly for the two main seasons here (hot, humid summer and colder, dense winter) and that's about all it needs now that I think all of the other adjustments are in spec (jets, white spacer, etc.).

Well, I bought one of these extended mixture screws just for the heck of it. Got it from the website posted by Verslagen.  It's very similar but not identical to the factory screw. It's on my S40 now, and it works. I'll test it on a long ride on Sunday, weather permitting!

By the way, I thought it would be brass, it's not: steel.

Did it come with the washer, spring and oring or screw only?  Good quality?

Good quality, yes, and steel, not soft brass like the factory screw. It came bare, screw only.

It has only one shoulder vs two for the factory screw, so the extended screw is not identical to the factory one.

If you want to try it, PM me your street address, and I'll mail it to you in a padded envelope.
