I have leaked oil on the front of the main cylinder head and from what I can determine, it is coming from under the cylinder head cover, more from the left side.
I assumed there would be a gasket between the head cover and cylinder head, but evidently there is not??...does this mean the cover has warped and needs to be replaced?

My bike is a RYCA kit re-build, so the chrome top covers were removed, with the long bolt on the left front cover was cut off. That bolt does not appear to tighten the head cover down, just used for fastening the top cover. Correct?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

That bolt should not have been cut off. The proper procedure is to create a bushing the length of the bolt shank and then use a nyloc to secure/torque the bolt. There should be room to get a short M5 bolt in that space and secure the cover.

With a bolt every few inches, I doubt it was intended that the cover would be stiff enough to warp and cause a leak. That said, a missing bolt could cause a leak... replace it with a shorter one. While there's no gasket, there's RTV. It was probably thought to be to complicated to seal properly.

But, 1st things 1st, clean, go for a ride and confirm where it's leaking to avoid doing unnecessary repairs or doing it twice.

Silly me....I always use the factory stuff.

It doesn't set up as fast as the store bought stuff and gives you time to work, it doesn't go hard in the tube in a month or two.......the stuff lasts for years without getting hard in the tube. It costs a bit more in the beginning - but it will outlast 5 tubes of the other stuff.

thanks all...btw, I'm sure the tube comes with directions but any secret tips working with this stuff??

Rubber gloves that stuff sticks to everything and skin !
If you are going to reseal head cover don't forget to do the head plug while cover is off , buy one from Versy

A trick I learned from sealing aircraft fuel tanks with polysulfides, wear multiple pair of gloves; this way when a glove gets gooped up, you only need to remove a layer and you can keep working. Also, never use gloves with any type of powder applied to them.
