Title: Re attaching rear brake foot pedal query
Post by eau de sauvage on 09/25/17 at 20:02:25

Took the whole rear brake pedal mechanism off in order to wrap the exhaust, I only took off the main acorn nuts and finagled the whole thing off, however I'm finding that it's too difficult to finagle back on and I don't want to force it.

I'm looking at all the points where I could loosen it and I'm hoping to get some advice on the best practice method that will give me just a wee bit of play to get it over the bolts without over dismantling.

Your pleas are heard. Understood.
Even felt, I'm sure.
But this kinda problem is much like getting outta a wet swimsuit. You just gotta feel what it's telling you and work it until you win.

OK, JoG how about a hint? Can I phone a friend and ask if I should undo the cable from the lever or is that what not to do?

EDIT: it's ok everyone can relax, I see it's the lower clamp bracket that needs removal. I looked at that but it did not seem that it would give me the play but seeing as it was the easiest I thought I may as well.

did you take the rear adjuster nut off?

I wondered about that, would that have been a better way? In the end I only needed to undo the two bolts that you can get to underneath, that gave me just enough play.

While you're here though, I did the bolts back up to the higher side of their torque setting closer to 59 ft/lbs and in hindsight I was wondering if I'd have been better off middling the torque. The reason I ask is that because they hold the engine together that maybe they are torqued too tight for the other engine casing bolts?

btw for anyone wanting to wrap, use the DEI titanium 2" x 15ft. I thought it was too wide at first but what no one tells you is that when you stretch it tight to get it nice and snug the width decreases quite a bit. 10 foot of this should have been enough but I ended up using the entire roll.

If the hole the bolt passes through becomes misaligned when the bolt is removed, bet going back will be tough.
If something is attached to a cable and a spring, remove the tension.
