I read that buncha libtards actually had the sidewalk air conditioned. I thought they were concerned about the environment.

I'll bet TT's got a post of Steven Colbert in his playroom.

I'm a big fan of good acting and writing. I used to love watching Oscars and Emmys, but no more. As Hitchcock famously said, actors are cattle.

Entertain me, that's all those cattle need to do. As a group of people, they are completely dysfunctional, but we're suppose to give a darn what they think about politics? They are 99% united in their views and will censor and shun anyone who doesn't follow the company line. They showed their true colors when they rallied behind child molesters Woody Allen and Polanski. I remember Clooney accepting some award and talking about how proud he was of Hollywood's courage at tackling taboo topics.... oh please! Every Hollywood movie is as politically correct as it can get. They never tackle anything really taboo....  Perfect example of liberals.

Well no matter what anyone thinks of them, they aren't using any tax dollars to pay for the event.  Not one person who didn't choose to support the industry had to pay a dime if they didn't want to.

They can have an awards show every day of the week and release a movie every hour that doesn't interest me, or fit my idea of what they should do with their earned money, and it wont cost me a thing.

Actually Eegore, it does cost you, it's just not easily measured.

The arguable point is does the entertainment culture reflect society or does it influence society. If you believe it reflects society, then there problem isn't much cost. If you believe it influences society, then there is most definitely a cost.

I am referring to imminent cost, tax dollars etc.

I believe entertainment culture does both, reflects and influences.  I do not however believe the content is as influential as the method.

It was once believed that home television would turn kids in the 50's and 60's into mindless anti-social drones that never leave the house.

Sadly, enough idiots are so easily influenced that movies and T.V.influence the Dumbmasses. There is enough evidence to make a guy who doesn't trust things to wonder if some movies aren't to some degree government propaganda. The Day After comes to mind.

They missed that prediction only by a couple of decades.....

I thought The Day After was based off The China Syndrome and developed by one of the heads of ABC.  Not that it wasn't propaganda but it seems too well done for government media work in 1983.

I wasn't old enough to see it released so I have no idea how it was received.

Support and general direction isn't the same as doing the movie.
It was just more
Push
for the hyperventilating Warmlarmists to lean on.

I don't know How it was received. I watched it on T.V..

I don't agree.  I think kids have changed, just like every single generation does, but anti-social?  Never leave the house?  We can't complain about how everyone looks at their cellphone all day and say we are becoming less-social at the same time.

Its just a different way to connect.  And it will be called the downfall of society just like the automobile, radio, TV, and computer were.
