Does anyone know what the black wire does that connects from the starter solenoid output to the ignitor box?
I presume it's to tell the box that the starter is turning and to generate a timed trigger to the ignition coil.
I have a constant 6v on the Black lead even when the starter is not engaged. I've done a forum search for a circuit diagram of the Ignitor circuit but no results

We had the same question a few weeks back. I believe the problem was a bad ground or bad starter solenoid.

I believe it sends a signal to retard the timing during startup.

That's what I've heard it was too. A retard for the timing at startup.

Cheers! - I've been looking online to see if I can find a circuit diagram with no luck.I have an old 4 speed module but I understand the timing was different from my 5 speed box. I had it in mind to try and trace the circuit from the 4 speed box but it probably would be a waste of time due to the difference in the circuits

If you change the flywheel to the old 4 speed one, it will work fine.

There is a timing difference. I have no idea how much or which way, just that it's different.

You probably won't find a diagram anywhere. The manufacturers like to keep that stuff as secret as possible. Otherwise, they couldn't charge hundreds of dollars for each different one. The chinese would copy them all and sell them for next to nothing or just make up an adapter cable to run a standard chinese cdi.

Steve - changing the flywheel is possible as I have 2 spare 4 speed engines but a lot of work to enable the use of the 4 speed circuit. Think that I will live with the 6v at the starter as it doesn't draw any current and the circuit works fine otherwise
