so I received my jet kit from lancer but probably won't have time to re jet until this weekend. I've had my bike parked for about a week and a half because I'm worried about damaging my engine. I've got the itch to ride now though so how quickly can running lean damage engine? I work about 5 miles away and was wondering if I rode it there and back if I would be doing much harm?

Don't run it at WOT and you'll be fine.

Get up to a steady speed and click the choke out one click.
If you feel better power, leave it out.

Hey Lancer got a question. So I was talking to a mechanic that was going to help me with putting in the bigger jets and he is claiming it won't work and that the kits come with different needles and I would need those. How much of that is true for this bike??

Anyone who IS a mechanic can help, once they have a clue.
You Can wreck the carb just getting it apart.
Those are JIS screws, not #2 Phillips.
You Can grind the tip of a Phillips till the X fills the slots.
If you have to get rough, put something under the cast aluminum tab the screw is through, don't bust it off.
Penetrating oil , Patience, and either use Antiseize or replace them with SS Allen heads . Or both

He is probably saying that you will need the pilot needle that comes with the kits that has a circlip with different ribs so you can tune it up or down. That isn't required as you can still adjust it by doing the "white spacer mod" that you will see referred to many time here. You just need to be careful not to damage the rubber diaphragm and make sure to use a JIS screwdriver to remove the screws holding the needle in. These are JIS (Japanese) screws and if you aren't very careful using a standard phillips you can strip the tiny screw heads out. Ask me how I know.

You can't clean the slide and needle and carb body too much before you reassemble it. You might wanna wear gloves at that stage too. Fingerprints can cause symptoms that you'll chase for weeks ... Ask me how I know 8-)

I don't need to ask, because my slide was sticking recently. Took it out and the coating was wearing off and sticking to the carb. Shot a little carb cleaner in there, wiped everything down, put it back together and it's runs fine now.
