Title: Favorite NH/Eastern Mass parts store or junkyards
Post by bradyGOAT on 08/08/17 at 09:34:30

Lucky me, my gear shifter rod snapped. Smart me, I ordered the dang clutch rod instead.

Perhaps Amazon Prime has spoiled me, but BOY is it annoying to wait a week+ for a part. Anyone in the NH/Mass area have a recommended parts store or junk yard?

Or better yet, anyone have a spare rod laying around I could trade you a six pack for?  ;D

I have a shifter rod in my breakdown kit here in central AL.

At some point I was ordering other parts I went ahead and ordered one to have if/when needed. It's hard not to have these cheap parts on stand-by so they are there when you need them, or when you get a square peg when you needed something to fit in a round hole  >:(

Might be a good time to consider Why it broke.
Do you have trouble getting it in gear?

I had trouble getting it into neutral, and out of neutral into first. No problems other than that

When that happens, let the clutch out to get the trans to move and try again.

My linkage broke once.  I was at a light and it just broke when I went to put it in gear.  After it broke, I noticed that it had been bent at some point causing it to weaken over time.

If you have to stomp on the shifter ,you're doing it wrong and will mess up the rod.

In my world I press on the shifter!

Applying any kind of real pressure. Why? It is only a thin rod to  get the job done. ::)
