Title: High pitch clicking when idling
Post by alisonsup on 07/24/17 at 18:10:40

I've noticed a high pitch clicking sound when my bike idles and when I'm driving it. I'm not sure if I should be worried or not.  I've recently changed the oil, air filter, battery, fuel petcock(with raptor), and fuel line. I noticed after I changed the oil and fuel petcock my bike would idle softer and not so loud but I've noticed a high pitch clicking sound. I'm not sure if the bike was idling so loud before that I couldn't hear it or if this is something new that needs to be addressed. Here's a link : https://youtu.be/x-6QuYzAm-w

Antique engine design,, that's the valves,, might time to adjust.
How many miles on it?

One of mine sounds just like that, figured it would be done soon.

Theres 24,850 miles on the bike. I've never adjusted the valves. How do you do that?

It's cam chain time and valve adjustment time.

The cam chain tensioner can ruin your engine.
The
How to's are posted.

What is that flapping around under the right hand side of your seat, and why is it flapping? Wind blowing, or do you have an exhaust leak that strong that it is blowing something around way up there.

Just caught my eye and seemed odd.

The thing flapping around is just a piece of electrical tape blowing in the wind.

Ok so if I understand this correctly it's the cam chain that wears out and needs to be replaced not the cam chain tensioner. I looked up the cam chain problems and noticed most people replace the adjuster instead of the chain. Do I need to replace both?

Also If I need to replace the tensioner where can I buy one the correct size? I don't have a welder to do the mod.

If you'll put the Verslavy on it you can get more miles out of the chain.
