Title: Quick white spacer material question Post by AlexW on 07/15/17 at 13:58:30 Is it obvious that this is my "get stuff sorted" weekend? :P I cannot for the life of me find teflon or steel #4 washers. Found brass ones, but they don't fit. I've now raided the magical mystery draws at Home Depot, and bought some metric M3 washers, which LOOK the correct size. The brass ones were a tiny bit tight to fit on the needle, and tiny bit wide to fit in the hole: holding one against the other, the M3s are a little wider internal and little slimmer external. The actual question is, before I actually put them inside the carb, is stainless steel safe in this setting? I can't imagine it wouldn't be, but I'd rather check than accidentally do something very silly. (There was a zinc option for the same washer too, but I've heard odd things about zinc not liking gasoline so decided against them). |

I've looked, I've asked, multiple times. I promise. As I mentioned, batman, my issue right now is that I think I've sanded my stock spacer down a little too far and want to see if a little more bulk is better. I could get them online, but shipping is consistently $8 or more, which is ridiculous for 50 cents worth of nylon. I already know the Ace nylon washers work and are a good size, but I can't get hold of them. What I want to know is whether stainless steel will mess up my engine. I don't think it will, but this isn't really the place to only think rather than know. |

Opened her up this morning, and once I got to the carb needle I noticed that the M3 washers I had are identical to the one that sits against the spring on the other side of the needle. They are, thus, a perfect fit. They're quite thin - I don't have an unsanded stock spacer for reference, but it looks like you'd need about 7 to make the full spacer size. I'm running four, and the bike seems to work just fine. If people are interested, I'm happy to take some spares to work tomorrow and stick a calliper on them. |
