Title: Intermittent starting issue
Post by marekbuk on 07/15/17 at 12:11:13

Sometimes when I press the starter button nothing happens except for an audible click! - If I tap the toolkit cover and try again the bike will start! The control unit with the 2 timers has been re-located to behind the toolkit cover - it hangs down by the cable loom, pressing against the side of the battery.

I have cleaned the control unit terminals and connector but the fault still occurs. Any ideas folks?

depending on where and how hard, could be the decomp controller or could be the starter relay.

the decomp controller looks like a sealed unit but moisture still can get in.
orient it with the connector down.

starter relay sometimes sticks usually in the closed position.

but I wouldn't rule out a dirty start button.

Thanks will check out the starter relay first as I think it also has been located behind the RH battery cover - the previous owner who 'chopped' the bike rewired it

While you're in there, check the terminal connections on the battery. :-/

Yes that's another good point - I did notice a bit of oxidisation on top of one of the battery terminals - cheers!
