Title: Taller gearing
Post by cygnet on 07/01/17 at 16:50:19

I'm thinking of doing the 25T Kawasaki Pulley mod. I'm also thinking of putting a 140/90 tire on also, has anyone had experience with doing both of these mods? Will the 140/90 tire fit with the Kawasaki pulley? Also will the old thumper be geared to tall? I know there is a lot of torque in that engine. :)

I did... No issues.   In fact you will be gaining.  140/90- 15 clocked 60 MPH and speedometer  matched (4,000 RPM). 25 T pulley and 140/90-15 CLOCKED 60 MPH @3,600(+) RPM.

I have both.  No problems and I often ride in mountains with hills.  Just the usual cautions about a 140/90 rear tire and maybe switching to button head bolts for the side rails.
Also, if you have the stock shocks and go to the bigger tire, you may have problems with the rear tire hitting inside the fender riding 2-up.  Depends on which tire you go with and the condition of your shocks.  Bigger tire = less room for wheel travel before contacting stuff.  Some 140/90's are a different fit than others.

So what tire would work the best?

Here are the tire choices you can make.

The Shinko is a great bargain tire....the Dunlop, Metzler and Michelin Commander are good tires if you will be putting 4,000 miles a year or more on the bike.
