Hi Guys i have a new 2017 S40 with 760km's on it. I drove to the gas station yeasterday and as I pulled up to the pump it backfired VERY loudly and stopped. I filled it with gas it only took 5 ltr's and it would not start. I put it on prime and did get it to run but it was running really bad and then it stopped again, and would not start. I had to truck it back to the dealer and have not herd back from them. Any ideas on what is going on? I hate to change anything as I have a 5 year warranty, but I'm not feeling that I have a reliable bike. >:(

Although it is new, I am suspicious that it is the petcock diaphragm sticking. That, or a vacuum line not secure or pinched or has a hole in it.

Keep us informed what the dealer says. This is a great bike once you get the kinks worked out.

Hard to believe the petcock could fail on a bike so new - but it is possible.

Have them pull the vacuum line on the petcock and see if there is any trace of fuel in it.......that line should be dry. You can shove a golf tee in the vacuum tube, put a cap on the carb nipple, turn the petcock to PRI and see if the bike runs normal again. If it does....and you get the same bad running issue when you hook the vacuum line back up.....then you have confirmed the petcock is faulty.

I would suspect something simple, check the petcock, check the vac line, check the gas cap vents, check the carb bowl vents.

Bad gas?

prime didn't fix it so petcock is low on my list.

When it stopped the second time, would the starter work and did you have ignition? Does anything feel loose near the kill switch?

It turned over just fine, but it would not fire. Everything seems tight all hoses on, it's only got 760 km's so all the rubber is soft not tried out.

Well got the bike back turned out that the negative wire on the coil came un hooked, so I took it for a test drive got 10 miles out of town and the rear tire went flat, so back on the hook, man when it rains it just pours ha ha ha.

Sorry for your loss. Now might be a good time to put a decent tire on it.
If you haul the wheel and get a tire mounted, that's about thirty bucks labor. Take your Bike, let them pull the wheel off and reinstall it and it's gonna Cost Ya,

I just took the wheel in to the shop I also got a new tube so total bill $68.00 Canadian. Put a 100km on today and she ran like a champ and no flat tires so all is good.

Interesting thing to note, the locally Yamaha dealer charges $30 or so each wheel to change the tire. Same price for the wheel to be on or off the bike.
